I got to Honey & Sage about twenty minutes later.

I had barely put my car in park before my phone started ringing again.

Xavier.

I stared at his name across my screen before declining the call and grabbing my purse.

The nigga had been blowing me the fuck down ever since I texted him.

I had only sent:

I’m meeting Heather and Avery. I’ll come home after so we can talk.

That was it.

Not even thirty seconds later, my phone rang.

I ignored him.

Then he called again.

Then came the texts.

Sam call me.

Where you meeting them?

Samantha answer the phone.

Call me before you talk to them.

That last one had made me pause for maybe half a second.

Before I ignored that shit too.

Whatever Xavier had to tell me could wait until I got home. He’d had all fucking morning to talk when we were standing in the same kitchen together. Now suddenly because I was meeting my sister and cousin, the nigga couldn’t breathe without hearing my voice?

Please.

I put my phone on silent, tossed it into my purse and got out.

Honey & Sage was cute as hell.

Small, warm, one of those quaint little brunch spots with plants everywhere, little gold fixtures, soft music playing and tables close enough together that you could hear somebody else’s conversation if they got too loud.

Which meant if Heather and Avery had called me here for some family drama, they better keep their damn voices down.

I spotted them toward the back.

And immediately slowed down.

Something was wrong.

Neither one was talking.

That alone was weird.

I walked over.
