He looked away.
“That’s what I thought.”
“I said I fucked up.”
“And that’s supposed to make it okay?”
“What you want me to fucking say?”
“The truth!”
“I gave you the fucking truth!”
“No, you didn’t!”
He grabbed his jacket off the arm of the couch.
“Where you going?”
“Out.”
I laughed.
Of fucking course.
“That’s what you do. Soon as shit get uncomfortable, you leave.”
“Because I’m not about to stand here arguing with you all fucking night.”
“This isn’t an argument! I’m asking where my husband was when he was supposed to be picking up our son!”
Xay pulled his jacket back on.
“I was handling some shit.”
I went still.
“What shit?”
“It don’t fucking matter.”
“It mattered enough for you to forget Zion.”
His jaw tightened.
I stepped closer.
“So yeah, nigga. It fucking matters to me.”
He stared at me.
For one second, I really thought he might tell me something.
Instead, he shook his head.
“I’m not doing this.”
“Of course you’re not.”
