Carter slapped one little hand against his chest like she understood him.

My heart squeezed.

She was almost seven months now and getting more personality by the damn day. Sitting up better, grabbing everything she could get her little hands on, eating her mushy food and getting mad as hell when you didn’t feed her fast enough.

And Keith loved her.

That was the fucked-up part.

He treated Carter like she was his even before I told him I was pregnant.

He had even moved me and Carter into his place.

According to him, my little one-bedroom wasn’t enough space anymore with a new addition coming, and he had a four-bedroom apartment with more than enough room.

A four-bedroom apartment that looked like a fucking college dorm when I first moved in.

I had to clean that shit from top to bottom.

I found three different sneakers under his couch, none of them matching, six empty liquor bottles on top of his cabinets and enough takeout menus to open my own restaurant.

But he was trying.

And he was treating me good.

Dr. Loud finished up, printed what he needed to print and stepped out while Keith grabbed some tissues and started wiping the gel from my stomach.

My phone pinged on the chair beside me.

I reached for it.

Heather.

Hey bitch. I made some of that lasagna you like. Come get some for you and Keith before I eat this whole fucking pan.

My eyebrows shot up.

“Oooh.”

Keith looked at me. “What?”

“Heather made that upside-down lasagna.”

His head popped up.

“Oh, fuck yeah.”

I laughed. “See? Greedy.”

“I’m not greedy. Your cousin can cook.”

I rolled my eyes while pulling my shirt back down.

Keith helped me off the table before reaching for Carter.

“I’ma drop y’all over there, make a play real quick, then come pick y’all up.”

“Okay, cool.”
