I blinked.

“You don’t?”

“We came here for an adventure.”

“You’ve been shot at twice.”

“Yes,” Rose said. “That part was excessive.”

Frank nodded.

“Far too many bullets.”

“But we care about all of you,” she continued. “We’re not leaving while someone is trying to hurt your family.”

“It may not be safe.”

Rose gave me a look that reminded me of my mother.

Firm.

Loving.

Impossible to argue with.

“Then it’s fortunate we have five Navy SEALs and Nathan aboard.”

Nathan, standing near the cabin door, looked over.

“What am I?”

Rose smiled at him.

“The one who carries my luggage without complaining.”

Frank pointed toward the suitcases.

“That is an important tactical position.”

I looked at Ward.

He was watching me from near the helm.

Waiting to see what I would decide.

“Frank and Rose can stay,” I said. “But only if they follow every instruction the SEALs give them.”

Rose nodded.

Frank frowned.

“Every instruction?”

“Every one.”

“What if they tell me to abandon my luggage?”

“Then you abandon it.”
