Frank looked wounded.
Rose leaned toward him.
“The trip is free.”
He considered that.
“Very well.”
I went below deck and opened the charter account on my laptop.
The refund to Frank and Rose took less than a minute.
Then I opened the expenses connected to the SEALs.
Fuel.
Food.
Equipment.
Hotel rooms they hadn’t used.
Emergency supplies.
Every dollar they had paid to protect us.
I returned it to the credit cards on file.
They would argue if I told them.
Ward would probably try to reverse it.
So I told no one.
By the time they noticed...
I planned to be nowhere near the conversation.
Calle leaned against the cabin doorway.
“You refunded the SEALs too.”
It wasn’t a question.
“Maybe.”
“Ward is going to be angry.”
“He can be angry for free.”
She laughed.
“You know they won’t accept it.”
“They don’t have a choice.”
“They always have a choice.”
