Sidney’s mouth presses into a thin line.
I meet her eyes. “Sorry, I washed it in the girl’s locker room during the game. I think I’m allergic to your perfume. Couldn’t stop sneezing.”
I’m careful to watch for any changes in expression on Sidney’s face. Did she set the whole locker thing up or was she honestly just hoping Luke would remember her scent and want her again?
Sidney stiffens and forces a smile to her lips. “Whatever. It makes sense you’d be allergic to anything expensive.”
She could go on and on about how much more money she has than me and it won’t bother me. My mom is a working, single mom. I have everything I need to survive. But if that’s the way Sidney wants to hurt me, bring it.
Luke rests my head on his shoulder again. I’m good with whatever they throw at me because in the end I have the one thing Sidney wants. And he’s said that he’s mine.
“Hey, babe, what’s taking you so long?”
Chills race down my spine, and I stiffen in Luke’s hold. That voice. It’s hard to tell with the music so loud.
But I’m back in that closet, holding it shut so fucking hard, while that voice slowly taunts me.
CHAPTER 11
The New Enemy
Eli
The two girls next to me giggle. Again. The redhead keeps touching my thigh. I’m so done with this. It was the deal, but I’m over it. I’d rather take Harper back in the house and fuck her.
Ashley studies me. Does she have a new boyfriend too? Or just Sidney?
Fuck, I hope she does. The catty looks are getting old. Not that a boyfriend ever stopped her from coming to me.
Zach Gray drapes his arm over Sidney’s shoulders. He’s the same height as Luke, similar build. He plays basketball. He’s got sandy blond hair and brown eyes. From what Luke said, he fits the profile.
I glance over at Luke and Harper. They’re both tense, and Luke is eyeing Zach.
“I was on my way, Zach. I just wanted to apologize to Harper for making her smell like me.” Sidney’s tone is too nice. Fuck that bitch.
He grins. “You don’t need to apologize, babe. I love the way you smell.”
His gaze flicks up to Harper for a heartbeat before lifting to Luke. It’s subtle, but he’s letting her know he sees her. What’s his game?
“Is that the girl you guys claimed?” He doesn’t look at her again, but he’s aware of her. I want to move closer, protect her, but that’s not the right move here. I need to wait and see what he gives away.
“Yes.” Luke’s voice is calm, but I can hear the rage he’s holding back.
“Good luck with that one. I hear she’s a prude. But I feel like I should thank you for letting Sidney go. Stupid if you ask me, but hey, I get it, you guys like to break them in. Me? I just like to fuck.” His gaze finally drops to Harper. The smile he gives her is anything but nice and friendly.
I laugh, drawing his attention away from her so she can breathe. I want him to know that I see him. His purpose is to make my girl uncomfortable. Fuck that.
“What’s so funny, Eli?” Zach raises his eyebrow.
“You acting like you know our girl.” I stand and brush off my jeans.
Zach smiles like he’s caught a mouse with his bait. “I don’t have to know her to know her type. Too tense to relax. Won’t take a dick in the mouth unless you force it. The only way to fuck that pussy is to hold her thighs apart until she takes it.”
“Fuck, Zach. I think I can speak for all the girls here when I say maybe take the toxic masculinity to a lower level.” I move between him and Harper. “Why don’t you worry about your girl and stop thinking about ours.”
His eyes lock with mine, but he still has that cocky smile. He laughs like he didn’t just describe raping Harper. I don’t go for public beat downs, but Zach is pushing it. If he really was the one planning on raping Harper, he’ll find out what happens to assholes who need stopped.
What we did to Tanner will look like a fucking kindness.
