Epilogue
One Year Later
“What do you think our guys have planned?” Holly asked Stella. It felt like déjà vu
from last year when she’d asked the same thing.
It was Valentine’s Day, and Dash had told Holly he had something special planned for her today. Holly had tried to protest, telling him she didn’t need any grand gestures, she just wanted to spend time with him, but he’d only smiled.
Then when she’d gotten to work, Stella had said Magic had told her practically the same thing. So now both women were extremely curious.
Looking at her watch, Holly saw that it was four o’clock. Almost time to leave, thank goodness. It had been a very long day full of anticipation and curiosity.
“I have no idea. But I’m sure whatever they’ve got cooked up, it’ll be awesome,” Stella said.
Holly smiled at her best friend. The year had been a good one for both of them. They’d started dating the men they’d had huge crushes on, had moved in with them, and both their relationships were stronger than ever.
The deployments were hard, but Holly had gotten through them with Stella’s help. Not to mention the other wives and girlfriends of the men on Magic and Dash’s team. Military spouses for the most part really helped each other out. It was like having a second family.
A commotion outside Holly’s office caught both women’s attention, and they looked at each other with huge grins on their faces. As one, they headed for the doorway to see what was going on, and to discover if their hunch that whatever was happening had to do with their men was correct.
It was.
Walking down the hallway toward them were Magic and Dash. They were both wearing their dress green uniforms and each held a dozen red roses.
Holly turned to look at Stella and saw she had a huge smile on her face, one that matched her own.
Then Dash’s gaze caught hers, and Holly couldn’t look away. He really was a hell of a gorgeous man. And he was all hers. She had no idea how she’d gotten so lucky, but every day she got to spend with him made her a better person. She’d never been as happy as she’d been over the last year.
When Dash arrived in front of her, he handed her the roses. Holly took them and buried her nose in the bouquet. The smell was divine.
“Hi,” she said somewhat lamely. She could hear Magic and Stella talking next to her, but all her attention was on the man she loved.
“Hi,” Dash returned and held out his hand.
Without hesitation, Holly put her hand in his. He turned and started walking back down the hall.
Stumbling a bit, Holly said, “Wait, I can’t leave yet! It’s not five o’clock yet!”
“I’ve already talked to your boss about leaving early,” Dash said calmly as he continued walking. “She had no problem with it.”
“But, my purse!” Holly said desperately.
As if her words were some sort of signal, her boss called out from behind them, “I’ve got it! Here you go, Holly! Have fun!”
Holly took her purse from the other woman and did her best to try to look calm, cool, and collected, when inside she was kind of freaking out. She had no idea where Dash was taking her or what was going on. She wasn’t scared—how could she be when she was with Dash?—but still.
Looking back once more, she saw Stella also being towed along by Magic. She widened her eyes at her friend as if to ask, ‘What the hell is going on?’
As always, Stella could read her nonverbal signals, and she shrugged. But the huge smile on her face told Holly she was just as excited about whatever was happening as she was.
They walked out of the office, and all four of them got into the elevator.
“Where are we going?” Holly asked.
“You’ll see,” Dash said mysteriously.
“You’re seriously not going to tell us?” Stella huffed.
