Matt pursed his lips in thought, then shrugged and returned to the video game.

She headed for the stairs. “I’m going to get dressed quickly. Will you let them in?”

“Take your time. No rush. Matt and I have it handled.”

“Yeah, we do,” Matt added.

Still, she hustled to her bedroom out of habit—and caught herself. She wasn’t alone. Wes could handle the delivery. She could take her time, and without guilt or assistance from hired help or immediate family, she slowed down and enjoyed a leisurely shower.

When she descended the stairs in a comfy dress that made her feel pretty, the delivery truck had left. Wes and Matt were unpacking boxes. Wes looked up. “You look nice.”

She shoved her hands in her pockets and twirled. “Why thank you. It has pockets.”

“Practical and pretty in pink.”

She beamed. “What’s in there?”

“Nothing was labeled as well as you would have done it, but we’ve managed to set our priorities. Legos first.” He extracted a large red bin. They rattled when he placed the box next to the couch. “Did you see the office?”

“I didn’t know we actually had an office.”

“Go look,” Matt directed. “They took everything out and brought everything in.”

She returned upstairs and checked out the unused bedroom. Sure enough, the furniture was gone, replaced with a replica of The Missing Piece office. Her whiteboards had been hung on the wall. Her newspaper clippings and notes were pinned exactly as they had been in her office.

Wes and Matt appeared at the door.

“They must have taken pictures…” She inspected the wall, head shaking in disbelief. “I wasn’t in the shower that long.”

“They had a plan and moved fast.”

“I can’t believe it.” She moved to the worktable placed in the center of the bedroom. Even her notebooks and pens lay out as she usually left them. “This is unnerving, to be honest. Unnerving and amazing.”

Wes chuckled.

Matt hopped onto an office chair and spun around. “What are we going to do today?”

“Wes and I have to work this afternoon. How about the library and park this morning, and then we figure out what you want to do later?”

“Yeah.”

“I laid clothes out for you. Go get dressed.”

He raced out, and she turned to the wall. “They went above and beyond.”

“I’ll tell Viv. Do you care if we swing by headquarters to drop off the key and Ryan’s old cell phone? I’d like Dean to get a look at it this morning if you’re okay with that.”

She nodded, curious about what his office would look like. She pictured a commercial building, but that didn’t match anything she’d seen in Granite Creek. “Sure.”

Matt raced back into the bedroom-turned-office. “Done.”

“That was quick.”

“I’m super fast.”

“Your shirt’s on backward.”

Matt switched it around. “Done. Again.”
