With that, he headed out the back door, and I dropped down in his seat.
“I like him.”
“Yeah, me too.” He hadn’t been around long, but he was a steady, more mature presence while not being a complete stuffed shirt. He still had his fun at the parties, but he did adult shit. Like go around and turn the lights off and remember to take the bins out.
While it was new, I was pretty sure when Fallon asked, I’d be giving him nothing but a good recommendation.
“How’re you feeling?”
“Since you asked me half an hour ago?” she asked, sliding her legs over my lap. “I’m still a little bit dizzy if I move too fast. And the nausea comes and goes when I move my head a lot. But other than that, everything is feeling better. Which is good because I need to get back to work. Don’t,” she said before I could even open my mouth. “I do need to get to work sooner rather than later.”
“Alright. If you’re dead set on that, we could go check out the car options today.”
“I haven’t gotten the money from the insurance company yet.”
I didn’t want to break the bad news to her, but she likely wasn’t going to see the money for another month. But there was no way Repo and the rest of the guys at the shop would ever take her money.
“You can give Repo an IOU.”
“Okay. I don’t really have going-out clothes.”
“You were just in a bad wreck, babe, no one is going to judge what you’re wearing.”
“Alright. I’ll just get ready, and we can—no!” she shrieked when I stood and swooped her up into my arms. “You don’t have to carry me everywhere.”
“Have to? No. Enjoy getting to? Yes.”
Objections aside, she snuggled in on the short walk back to our room, and it took actual work to put her down and walk away.
I’d never had a problem controlling my urges in the past. But sleeping next to her had proven to be the best test of my self-control.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t willing, either, which was probably the most difficult part. She was just sore all over. I’d moved in my sleep the night before, accidentally pressing into the bruises on her stomach, and she’d cried out.
I needed to let her body heal.
Then I could get to hear the way she whimpered and moaned while I was deep inside her. I could feel her fingers raking down my back and her hips rocking up to meet my thrusts.
Georgie changed into the navy outfit and put one of the sweaters on over it, then we were in the SUV and heading across Navesink Bank to the repair shop.
I’d made sure to already reach out to Repo to tell him my plan. Mostly to nudge him to get her a couple of options at least mostly finished with their rebuilds or repairs so she could pick.
“It feels weird to be out again,” Georgie said as we drove down the road. “I love your room.”
“But the lack of windows feels claustrophobic after a while,” I finished for her.
“Yeah. I mean, you have the ultimate privacy, which is nice. But it’s so hard to wake up at a reasonable time when the sun isn’t shining in.”
“You don’t need to be awake at a reasonable time,” I reminded her as we turned into Repo’s lot. “You need your rest.”
“I have never been so rested,” she said. “I’m so rested I’m starting to get annoyed by it.”
“It’s a good thing we’re getting out today, then.”
There were four cars sitting next to each other in the backlot: a crossover, an SUV, and two sedans.
“I don’t think I need all that car,” she said about the SUV. “If you donate these, I think it would be better to go to someone who has a family to cart around. It’s just me. And other people’s groceries.”
I wasn’t going to push her in any direction, but after that accident, I’d rather she had more car around her than a sedan.
