“And deprive me the pleasure of having to mediate everyone getting butt-hurt about their ideas being vetoed? Danny would never.”
Apparently, once upon a time, Danny had been the president of a rival MC who got a lot of pleasure fucking with Fallon.
It was good to know that was still how she got her kicks after all these years together.
“So, if you can back me up in there…”
“If by ‘back you up’ you mean get right to work and completely ignore the discourse, then yeah, I’ll back you up.”
I wasn’t about to insert myself into an argument between the OG club members. I didn’t know any of them well enough to feel comfortable with that. They were all still around the club at times, and the current club members talked about them enough that I felt like I knew everything about them. That said, I didn’t actually know any of them well enough to inform them that all-wood-everything bars weren’t that popular anymore.
So I just minded my damn business and started ripping out the floors while the men argued and debated and argued some more. Enough that even Fallon got tired of trying to mitigate and said he would be back with Danny to ‘whip them into shape.’
Eventually, the men declared the situation hopeless and took a break to go get some food, the animosity of the previous few hours dropped as they companionably made their way out the door, leaving me alone to work.
I had half the floor torn up and was taking the planks to the trash so I could keep going.
And there she was.
Dressed like a criminal and shaking like a leaf.
CHAPTER TWO
Georgie
I slumped down in the seat, giant sunglasses on my face and my baseball cap pulled down low.
I looked like a stalker.
And, I guess, in a way, I was.
Eight years ago, if you’d told me that I would be doing something like this, I’d have thought you were crazy.
But eight years ago, I was a blissfully naive young woman whose prefrontal cortex had only just fully formed, a ring on my finger, and a man who was going to love me and spoil me forever and ever.
What a fool I’d been.
But a fool was exactly what he’d been looking for.
Unfortunately for me, I didn’t realize that until the vows were said and the ink was dry, and I was stuck with a man who would delight in making my life a living hell.
Now, to get away from the bastard for good, I had to serve him the papers sitting on the seat of my car.
My lawyer had tried first.
Then a process server.
If I could afford a private investigator, I’d hire them to do this for me.
But I really couldn’t even afford my lawyer.
So it was on me to find him, follow him, and serve him the divorce papers. Preferably in public. With lots of witnesses.
He wouldn’t want to make a scene.
See, the thing was, Perry was really into appearances. So he wouldn’t scream at me in front of other people. Not in this day and age where everyone had a camera in their hand and loved airing someone else’s dirty laundry online.
As much as he was going to hate me for delivering the paperwork, he would hate a viral video of his mantrum even more.
