My brain refuses to process what I’m looking at.
Beneath the romper is a tiny sage-green beanie and a pregnancy test.
Two pink lines.
My heart stops.
“What—” I look up at Blair. “What is this?”
Her eyes immediately fill with tears. “I’m pregnant.”
I look back down at the box, then at her again.
“You’re pregnant?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure?”
“I found out at the hospital.” She nervously twists her fingers together. “G bought another test because neither of us could quite believe it. I took it at her house before she helped me put this together.”
“You found out last night?”
Blair nods. “I wanted it to be special when I told you.”
I stare down at the tiny romper again.
A baby.
Our baby.
“Are you happy?” Blair asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
My eyes snap back to hers. “Am I happy?”
“I know it’s fast,” she rushes out. “We’ve only been together for a couple of months, and we haven’t talked about having children. I don’t even know if you wanted another one, and after everything with Courtney—”
“Blair.” I put the box aside and reach for her hands. “I’m fucking terrified.”
Her face drops.
“But I’m also so fucking happy I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Her shoulders loosen, but there’s still something uncertain in her eyes.
The old fear crawls out of the part of me Courtney left behind, and the question escapes before I can stop it.
“And you’re staying?”
Blair goes completely still.
I immediately hate myself for asking.
“Baby, I—”
“I’m not Courtney, Dean,” she says, gripping my hands tighter. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“I know.” My voice cracks. “Fuck, I know that. It wasn’t fair to ask.”
