Alaric nodded. “Then it will be our tradition.”

Leon picked up a bun. “What is this?”

“A vanilla-cardamom custard bun. I made them.”

Every Alpha looked at me, which was completely unnecessary.

“They’re just buns.”

Alaric took the piece I offered him and tasted it. Warmth came through the bond almost immediately.

“Exceptional, my heart.”

Leon had already taken a bite and was staring at his bun as though I’d done something much more impressive than bake breakfast.

“You made these for us.”

“Yes. And before anyone says anything, I know you’re all very strict about nutrition, but I love baking for my family, so you’re going to have to make an exception for me.”

“Gladly, my darling,” Lucien said, leaning closer to kiss my temple.

Caius reached for a second before he’d finished his first. Lucien wanted to know where I’d learned to make them, and Leon was already asking what ingredients Gilda would need if I planned to bake again.

That was when I noticed Darius hadn’t touched his. He was just holding it.

“Don’t you like cardamom?”

“I do.” He looked down at the bun, then back at me. “I was thinking about you making this for me.”

Then he took a bite, his eyes never leaving me.

“Good?”

“Perfect.”

I leaned over and kissed his cheek before settling back between him and Lucien.

Around me, the others ate, talked and reached for more food, and I looked around at all five of them—my mates, my Pack.

I wanted plenty more mornings exactly like this.

Chapter 21

Lady Elowen

Mireya arrived shortly after the morning meal, her usual medical case noticeably missing. I watched her settle into the chair opposite mine, with the little table between us as usual.

Neither of us spoke until the guard left and locked the door behind him. I marked my place in the book she’d brought on her last visit and set it aside.

“Good morning, Mireya.”

“Good morning, little dove. You’re looking much better.” Her gaze moved to the empty tray on my bed. “And eating properly, I see.”

“The meals have improved.”

“As they should. I gave very specific instructions.”

She looked so pleased that I almost thanked her for taking care of me.
