“All those years of waiting.”
That melted something inside me, especially when he entered me slowly, kissing me the whole time as my arms tightened around his neck.
He moved slowly too, deep enough each time that I felt every bit of him. It was tender and thorough and so intimate that it almost hurt in a completely different way.
This wasn’t fucking; this was making love.
I held onto him and touched whatever parts of him I could reach, running my hands over his shoulders, chest and strong arms, only letting go of his mouth when one of us actually needed to take a breath.
We came together with our foreheads pressed against each other and my arms and legs wrapped tightly around him. His knot swelled and locked us together as his body shuddered against mine, and before I’d even properly come down from it, that primal need rose inside me again. He was mine, and I needed him to know it.
I bit into his neck just as his teeth sank into my shoulder, crying out as my fifth and final bond snapped into place.
His emotions hit me all at once: happiness, pride, contentment, and possessiveness, and beneath it all, even a tiny thread of fear.
“Ah, Darius.”
My voice broke, and he held me tighter.
“You make me so happy, Omega.” His mouth brushed my forehead. “I’ll treasure you for as long as I live.”
My chest hurt in the nicest possible way.
His knot still held us together, but somehow Darius carried me back to the nest with water still dripping from us both. Once we were there, he settled me against him, one hand at the back of my head while the other slid slowly down my back, then pulled a blanket around us.
“Rest, sweet Omega. I’ll watch over you.”
He pressed a kiss to my forehead, and that was pretty much all I needed. I was asleep before I knew it.
By the time I woke, the light had moved across the canopy, blankets were tangled everywhere, cushions had shifted, and Caius seemed to have stolen most of them. Lucien slept with a book under his hand and one finger still between the pages.
I carefully rescued it before someone rolled on it, then stayed where I was for a little while, just watching them. They weren’t nearly as serious when they slept.
Darius had a hand on my hip, Leon was tangled around one of my legs, and getting out without waking anyone took a bit of work, but somehow I managed it.
After washing my face and untangling my hair, I looked in the mirror at the five bite marks. They looked almost healed already and didn’t even hurt anymore.
“Amazing,” I whispered.
Then my stomach growled loudly enough to ruin the moment, and I realised I was absolutely starving.
Time to find something to eat.
I tied my hair back, pulled on a soft cream dress and slipped out to find the kitchen.
Finding my way around was surprisingly easy once I followed the smell of freshly baked bread. The kitchen was already busy by the time I arrived.
Copper pans and crockery filled shelves carved straight into the stone walls almost to the ceiling. Plates, bowls, mugs, and glasses were everywhere, along with jars, serving dishes, and more cooking pots than I knew anyone could possibly use. A ladder ran along the tallest shelves, and a huge stone island took up the middle of the room, big enough for a dozen people to work around without bumping into each other.
I loved it immediately, especially the huge work surface in the middle.
Two women were working at one end.
“A new light to you, Lady Stormforge,” the older woman said. “I’m Gilda, the head cook. This is Ada, my assistant.”
“A new light to you. It’s lovely to meet you both.” I smiled. “I was hoping I could borrow your kitchen for a little while. I’d like to make breakfast for my mates.”
Gilda folded her hands. “If the lady of the household is expected to prepare her own meals, then I’ve failed in my duties.”
