She raised a finger to her lips. “Please. Do not call for them.”

My smile faded as her eyes shifted toward the door. The guard was only a few feet away on the other side.

“You must come with me,” she said.

“I don’t think so.”

I stayed beside the door and took a better look at her. In the small room, I could scent that she was a Beta.

“We have very little time.”

“Who are you?”

“Someone who wishes to help you.”

“Help me with what?”

“I can help you return home.” She lowered her voice. “To your own world. To your sisters. You wish to see your sisters again, do you not?”

“What did you just say?”

I crossed the room and caught her arms before I’d even thought about moving.

“How do you know about my sisters? Who are you?”

“We know much more than that.”

“Who’s we?”

She didn’t answer. “We can return you to them.”

My fingers tightened around her arms. I wanted to believe her so badly that it scared me.

“How?”

“I will explain everything, but you must come with me now.” She glanced towards the door. “We have very little time.”

I loosened my grip.

I might not understand much about this world yet, but I knew when someone was trying to rush me into something before I could think better.

I let go of her arms.

“Why can’t you explain it here?”

“It is not safe.”

“There’s a guard outside the door. I think we are pretty safe.”

Her scent grew sharper. Anxiety was dominating her nervousness.

“Please, Lady Stormforge. You must trust me.”

“I don’t know you.”

“Let me take you somewhere safe.”

That word tightened something in me.
