I don't know why magic moves through me every time I touch him.
But I'm not afraid. Not even a little.
Dora squeezes my hand.
“Then maybe you’re looking in the wrong books.”
I look up.
“What does that mean?”
She shrugs.
“Maybe he isn’t a familiar.”
My stomach does a strange little flip.
“What else would he be?”
“I don’t know.”
Neither do I.
But suddenly, I really want to find out.
Chapter Seven
I've seen the black Wolf every day for the past two weeks.
Every.
Single.
Day.
Which means one of two things.
Either he's actually my familiar...
Or I need to start seeing a therapist.
Honestly, at this point, both remain viable options.
He shows up at different times. Sometimes he's waiting near the faculty parking lot in the morning. Sometimes I find him lurking at the edge of the athletic fields during recess.
Once, I walked outside after my last class and found him sitting beneath a tree like he'd been waiting for me. Which, he obviously wasn't.
Probably.
He's a Wolf. Wolves have lives. Wolf things to do.
Whatever those are.
Still, he's quickly becoming my second best friend.
Dora retains the number-one position by virtue of being human-shaped and capable of answering when I ask a question.
Although the Wolf is a considerably better listener.
