Prologue

Being a single Witch at thirty-six isn’t nearly as tragic as some people seem to think it is.

Really. It’s not.

I have a career I love, a roof over my head, good friends, and enough disposable income to buy shoes I absolutely do not need.

Could I use a little romance in my life?

Sure.

Would I like to meet a handsome man who thinks my curves are fabulous, my laugh is adorable, and my tendency to talk too much when I’m nervous is charming instead of annoying?

Absolutely.

But do I need one?

Nope.

My name is Agatha Daniels, though everyone who knows me calls me Aggie, and I teach Alchemy at the Royal Academy for Magical Advancement.

Yes, that's a real place.

No, humans don't know about it.

The Academy is located on the outskirts of Castor's Corner, New Jersey, a magically protected little town filled with Witches, Shifters, and enough supernatural shenanigans to keep things interesting.

I've lived with magic my entire life.

I teach it.

Study it.

Experiment with it.

Occasionally, I clean it off the ceiling.

That last one happens more often than I'd like.

Alchemy is not an exact science.

Okay, technically it is.

But try explaining that to a sixteen-year-old Witch who thinks two pinches of powdered salamander scale will work twice as fast as one.

Spoiler alert.

It won't.

Unless your desired result is setting your eyebrows on fire. Then it works beautifully.

Still, I love my job. I love the Academy. I even love my students.

Most of the time.

I have a best friend, Dora Troy, who happens to be mated to our principal, Wulfredo Tremayne. Wulfy, if you're Dora. Principal Tremayne, if you're me and we're standing in front of students.

Dora and Wulfy got their happily ever after not too long ago, and I'm thrilled for her.
