“Yeah, I, um, noticed.”
His gaze heats.
Oh, no. We are not getting distracted by sex memories.
Later.
Maybe.
Probably.
Definitely.
Focus, Aggie.
“So, you claimed me, and the curse broke?”
“Not exactly.”
My smile disappears.
“Not exactly?”
“This is the part I didn't know.”
He crouches down in front of me. Actually crouches in the grass in his formal suit just so he can look me in the eye.
“The claiming triggered the final part of the curse.”
I wait.
“See, it wasn’t enough for me to find and claim you. You had to choose me, too.”
“What?”
“You had to choose me without knowing what I was. Without knowing about the curse. Without knowing I was your Wolf, or that you were my mate.”
I blink.
“That's incredibly unfair.”
“Most curses are.”
Good point.
“If you had rejected the bond—if you'd scorned my love or chosen another before the next full moon—the curse would have become permanent.”
My mouth drops open.
“Wait.”
Grimm visibly braces himself.
“So if I'd jumped into bed with someone right after you, you'd still be cursed?”
His eyes flash.
“First of all, don't even joke about that.”
