“You’ll see.”
“What color?”
“You’ll see.”
“Ass out?”
A smile spread across her face.
“You’ll see.”
She kissed me before I finished.
A real kiss.
Slow.
Her body pressed against mine while my hands settled around her waist.
When she pulled away, she looked me right in my face.
“Don’t have me putting that shit on just for you to roll over talking about you tired.”
I laughed. “Girl, go get your hair done.”
“I’m serious.”
“I heard you.”
“Better.”
She kissed Serenity before telling the other kids she’d be right back. Michael tried to follow her to the door until she made him go sit down.
“Twenty minutes,” she told me.
“Okay.”
“And get dressed.”
“Go!”
She laughed, opened the door and disappeared into all the noise outside.
The door shut.
I stood there for a second.
Then looked toward the couch.
Avery was looking at me.
I looked at her.
Neither one of us said shit.
Didn’t need to.
“Ima shower,” I said.
