He immediately let go.
We stared at each other.
Then he shook his head.
“You gonna calm down tomorrow.”
That did it.
I zipped the half-full bag and shoved it into his chest.
“No, Xavier. Tomorrow I’m still gonna have a niece that’s my husband’s daughter. I’m still gonna have a cousin’s baby that’s my husband’s son. And Avery is still gonna be pregnant with another one of your fucking kids.”
His face tightened.
“None of that changes what me and you got.”
“Yes, the fuck it does.”
“Sam—”
“Get out.”
“I’m your husband.”
“Not tonight you’re not.”
He stared at me.
I pointed toward the bedroom door.
“Get the fuck out of my house before I forget my kids need their father alive.”
That finally shut his ass up.
He grabbed the bag.
Walked out the bedroom.
And I followed him all the way to the door.
He stopped there and turned around.
“I love you.”
I laughed right in his face.
Then opened the door.
“Go love Heather and Avery.”
His jaw clenched.
“Sam—”
“Goodbye, Xavier.”
I slammed the door behind him.
Locked it.
And for the first time in nine years, Xavier Lawless didn’t live with me anymore.
