There went that fucking feeling again.

Yeahhh something wasn’t right.

And suddenly my pregnancy wasn’t the only thing making my stomach turn.

SAMANTHA

I was helping the caterers clean up as everything was finally winding down.

Thanksgiving was officially over.

Everybody left in Levin’s house was either drunk, full, half sleep, or some combination of all three. The music had been turned down. Half-empty cups covered damn near every flat surface. Plates were stacked by the sink. Somebody had left a dinner roll on the floor by the couch, and I wasn’t even about to ask which one of these damn kids did it.

Michael was knocked out on the floor in the entertainment room with his little mouth open.

Zion and Amari were somehow eating another piece of sweet potato pie like they hadn’t been eating all damn day.

Serenity was asleep in her carrier.

My parents, Amanda and Tim, had left maybe five minutes ago after my mother took enough pictures to document Thanksgiving for the next ten years.

Nesha thought I ain’t see her ass sneak off with Tyler earlier either.

I definitely fucking did.

I ain’t say shit, though.

Whatever arrangement her and Tyrell had was their business, and judging by the way Tyrell packed their son up and left with his wife like everything was perfectly normal, apparently everybody who needed to know knew.

I was loading plates into the dishwasher when I felt somebody come up behind me.

“You know I got help to do that, right?”

I looked over my shoulder at Levin.

“Yeah, and you know I can make it go a little bit faster.”

He leaned against the counter.

“You been cleaning my house for damn near forty minutes.”

“And?”

“And sit the fuck down.”

I laughed. “Boy, bye.”

I turned back toward the dishwasher.

“Bossy ass.”

Before he could answer, little feet dragged across the kitchen floor.

“Mommy.”

I looked over.

Zion stood there looking like he was fighting for his life to keep his eyes open.
