I looked down at Collin.
“Damn, he sleep all day?”
“Fuck no. That’s why I’m enjoying this shit.”
I laughed.
We ordered, talked about regular shit.
Heather complaining about her titties leaking through everything.
Me telling her my mother was getting on my nerves.
Nothing serious.
Until Heather took a sip of her drink and said casually,
“Girl, you know Xay was just at my house?”
My eyes went straight to her.
“What?”
Heather shrugged.
“The fuck was he doing at your house?”
The question came out way too fucking fast.
Neither one of us said anything for a second.
Then she shifted Carter higher against her chest.
She shrugged again.
I reached for my drink.
“I mean, I didn’t know y’all was that close.”
“We family.”
“Obviously.”
Her eyes stayed on me.
Mine stayed on hers.
Something about this conversation felt weird as fuck.
And after Xay had just popped up at my job?
Yeah.
I didn’t like that shit.
Heather smiled.
But it didn’t quite reach her eyes.
