He’s watching my home. He followed Savy’s magic trail to the cabin. Walking around the exterior, he crouches in the backyard, under the tree we stood. He hovers his hand over the grass and releases his magic. Ice forms in front of him, and the Earth shudders. He pounds his fist and hisses.
He’s frustrated, and it satisfies me.
Why? What does he want?
The picture he held in his hand in the hotel appears in my mind. I can see it clearly. The woman is blond, smiling, and beautiful.
She looks similar to Savy.
He must have lost the woman, and wants to replace her with my soul bond. My anger rises, and Griffon stands, looking around. He can’t see me, but perhaps he felt my rage. I want to kill him. I need him to come after me instead of her.
Release my magic. What does he fear?
He jerks back, looking around frantically now. I’ve never tried to use a nightmare in a vision, and I know it won’t have the same effect, yet I feel his trepidation.
I grin.
His eyes narrow, and his thoughts leak through my spell. He’s desperate for a family. The obsession runs deep, and it started with the woman he lost. The love he felt for her turned dark, but I can’t see what happened to her. If I had to guess, he killed her. He couldn’t stand the thought of her leaving him, but she tried. He’s been looking for someone to replace her.
He growls, turning in a circle, his power dripping from his fingertips, leaving a trail of ice. It piles up around him, increasing with his confusion. Walking toward my house, he glares at the structure.
“Who are you?” he demands.
I command the protection spell around my home to pulse in response.
He surges forward and pounds on the wall. As his fist connects, my spell pushes back, and he falls on his ass. I want to laugh seeing the elegant man sitting in the grass, shock in his expression.
“You think you can keep her from me?” he shouts, scrambling to his feet.
The walls creak in response to my rage. My spells expand, black flowing from my body, filling the room. My house is an extension of me. I don’t have to be there for it to react the way my emotions do. A bolt of lightning cracks through the sky, striking the ground five feet from where he stands.
“Make him feel fear,” I command.
“Fuck you,” he growls, holding his arms wide. Ice covers his arms, and he grins. “I’ll freeze you from the inside out.”
He looks around before walking away.
“Shit,” Rome hisses, dropping his arms. “Archer.”
I blink and lift my head. “He’s gone.” I follow Rome’s gaze to my arms, and I'm stunned to see drops of ice on my skin. “He connected with me just as I did with him.”
“Archer,” Savy cries, breaking through my spell, and rushes toward me.
“I’m alright,” I mumble, but my energy is dropping fast. I catch her as she presses against my side. All magic takes power, and I’ve reached my limit. My house is still protected, but weaker than it was.
“What happened?” she asks.
“Archer interacted with him,” Rome says quietly. “You’ve never done that before.”
“I was a little surprised, too.” I smirk.
My body needs sleep to recharge. I would rather track the asshole.
“You need to rest,” Savy says.
“He can’t drive.” Rome steps close to my side. “Let me take you home. Everything can wait. You can’t fight him right now.”
“I know.” I kiss Savy’s forehead. “Don’t worry.”
