“Savy.” He opens his arms, and she continues forward.

I pull on her hand and freeze. “No,” I grit out.

She looks at me. “Oh.”

Luckily, she gives in to my demand and comes to my side.

“Mateo, what are you doing here?” Savy asks.

He drops his arms, his focus centering on me. “Gran sent me.” He lifts his chin. “Who is he?”

“Archer.” She cups the inside of my arm with her other hand. “My soul bond.”

“Really? Recently?” Mateo asks.

“Shit,” Rome mutters, moving closer to the warlock.

“Very,” Savy says.

He tilts his head, staring at her, and my spells leak. The lights flicker, and the walls vibrate. I want to tear his eyes out.

“I see.” He slides his hands in his pockets. “I’m not a threat,” he tells me.

“I would hope not,” I say low, glancing at Rome as he circles behind Mateo.

“What’s wrong with Granny? Why did she send you, and not call me?” Savy asks.

“She didn’t want to take the chance of them tracing your number. They found her,” Mateo says.

“No, she was careful,” Savy rasps.

“Who?” I ask, not liking the fear threading through her body.

“My parents,” she says glumly. “They aren’t good people.” She sighs, looking around the room before focusing on me. “I have a sister. We’ve lived apart for many years. Her power could be used for very bad things. My parents can’t find her, but if they found Granny…” She shakes her head. “It’s one step closer to discovering where she lives.”

“Wild One,” I mumble, caressing her jaw.

“Gran says it’s under control,” Mateo says, and she turns to face him. “She knew they were coming and reinforced the spells. You know she won’t allow them to get close to her. She wants you to stay here, don’t come, and don’t call. She’ll reach out when they're gone.”

“How can I?” Savy asks, leaning against me. “I need to warn my sister.”

“We'll help you,” I assure her.

“You can’t,” Mateo hisses.

“Excuse me?” I move forward, and Rome stops at his side.

“The more magic around Aria, the easier it will be to find her,” Mateo insists.

“What did I miss this time? My tattoo gun is buzzing around the counter.” Lace says, entering the store. “Who are you?”

“Pretty witch,” Mateo sings, staring at her.

“No,” I growl.

“What? She is,” he says.

“Not for you,” I continue.
