“Then someone wanted us to find it,” I say.
Marquez calls the officers searching for Peter Lang.
“His gallery appointment may have been connected to Donald Cross. Treat him as a possible victim until we know otherwise.”
Ivy searches through the calendar details.
“There’s a phone number.”
“Don’t call it,” Ben warns.
Marquez writes it down and sends it to her technical team.
A response returns less than a minute later.
“Prepaid phone,” she says. “Purchased two weeks ago.”
“Where?” I ask.
“Blue Lantern Marina Supply.”
Arthur Bell’s business.
“The Bells supplied the phone,” Willow says.
“Or someone bought it there to make us believe they did,” Marquez replies.
“How many layers are we going to add before you admit these people are working together?” Storm demands.
“As many as the truth requires.”
Ben releases my hand and walks toward the floor plan of Ivy’s studio.
“Where would Peter meet an artist?”
“In the gallery,” Ivy answers.
“Not the storage room?”
“No.”
“Did the police search his office?”
“They cleared it.”
“That isn’t what I asked.”
Ivy brings up the body-camera recording and rewinds it.
The officers passed Peter’s office while searching for Elliot.
The door was closed.
One officer opened it, looked inside and moved on.
