Icould still taste Robyn when we returned to the lodge.
Her lips. Her skin. The faint trace of her blood that seemed to have become part of me.
She kept glancing at me during the flight back, her cheeks reddening whenever our eyes met. I knew what she was thinking about. I was thinking about it too.
She had said she wanted me.
Those words repeated in my head with every beat of my wings.
Cairn and Georgie were no longer in the field when we landed. For once, I was grateful for their absence. I lowered Robyn onto the grass, but she kept one hand on my shoulder while she found her balance.
“Better the second time?” I asked.
“Much. I only thought I was going to die twice.”
“You were never in danger.”
“I know that now.”
Her smile faded as her attention dropped to my mouth. I wanted to kiss her again, but I had promised to answer her questions first. The kiss on the hillside had already gone further than she had intended.
I stepped away before my tail could curl around her leg.
“Ask me.”
She looked towards the lodge. “Maybe not out here.”
My cock hardened again.
Robyn rolled her eyes. “I meant because it’s cold. And I’d like some privacy.”
“I like privacy. I’ve been stared at by your kind for many, many generations. I like a room just to ourselves.”
She walked ahead of me, giving me a perfect view of her arse. My tail twitched with the urge to wrap around her waist and pull her back against me.
I followed her back to the lodge, trying not to stare at her curves and failing repeatedly.
Cairn and Georgie were sitting together in front of the fire when we entered. Cairn looked up, his gaze moving from my healed wing to Robyn’s flushed face.
“How was the flight?”
“Successful,” I said.
Robyn walked past them without stopping. “We’re going to talk.”
Georgie’s lips twitched. Cairn looked far too amused for someone who had almost killed his own mate during their first flight.
“Do not disturb us,” I added.
Robyn stopped outside the bedroom and looked back at me. “That makes it sound as if we’ve already decided what’s going to happen.”
“Have we not?”
“We’re going to talk,” she repeated, although her scent suggested that talking was not the only thing on her mind.
She opened the door and went inside. I followed, closing it behind me. Robyn reached past me and turned the lock.
