From above, the landscape looked unreal. Green hills rolled towards the dark water. Kilchurn Castle stood in the far distance, smaller and less threatening now.

I could feel when Sten was going to turn before his body moved. The bond shifted inside me, making me lean with him as he changed direction.

“You feel it,” he said.

“Yes.”

His smile widened.

He flew lower, following the edge of the loch. The tips of his wings almost touched the water with every downstroke.

“This is incredible,” I breathed.

“I know.”

There was no arrogance in his voice. Only happiness.

Sten carried me towards a grassy rise overlooking the water and landed with barely a jolt. His tail loosened, but I kept my arms around his neck.

“You can put me down.”

“I can.”

He made no move to do so.

I looked into his golden eyes. “Are you planning to?”

“Do you want me to?”

“No.”

His attention dropped to my mouth.

“May I kiss you?”

“Yes.”

His lips met mine.

The kiss was nothing like the careful one we’d shared in bed. Sten kissed me as if he’d been waiting all morning to do it, which, judging by the erection pressed against my stomach, he probably had. I opened my mouth and his tongue met mine. One of his fangs caught lightly on my lower lip. It didn’t break the skin, but my body remembered exactly what his bite had felt like.

I slid my hands up his chest and around his neck, pulling him closer. He made a low sound against my mouth and tightened his arms around me, one hand spreading across my back while the other held my waist. He kept kissing me until my lips tingled and I had to turn my head to breathe. Even then, his mouth followed mine.

He lowered my feet to the ground but kept one arm around my waist. My back met his wing, the warm membrane curving around me.

I slid my hands over his chest. His muscles tightened beneath my palms.

His tail curled around my thigh and moved higher.

Sten broke the kiss. “May I touch you?”

“You are touching me.”

“More.”

My pulse jumped. He heard it. His pupils widened.

“Yes.”
