Summer went to say something but was stopped when the door opened behind me. A moment later, Marshall’s scent hit me as he entered the room, quickly followed by Tobias’s. They must have arrived home at the same time.
Tobias didn’t hesitate, walking over to Summer and pulling her into a quick hug. “How was your day?”
She smiled warmly up at him, and I didn’t miss the way her hands lingered on him. Her sweet tea scent, already prominent, swelled at the contact, judging by the slight pink hue that rose in her cheeks. We knew full well what had happened, but we were all polite and ignored it anyway.
Well, as much as we could.
I was certain that burst of sweet fragrance had affected us all in particular ways… I, for one, was sporting a semi I desperately needed to hide. It was Summer’s first day with us. We didn’t need to be assaulting her with boners right away.
“I need to shower, unfortunately. I’ll be right back. Order for me.” Tobias kissed the top of Summer’s head and jogged up the stairs. He was known for lightning-fast showers, so I put my money on about five minutes.
“Summer,” Marshall said gruffly. “The rest of your paperwork came today.” He handed her the manila folder.
“Thanks,” she said, smiling brightly as she looked down at the folder and burst into giggles.
“What?” Emmett asked, frowning.
“Summer Winters. My name is now officially Summer Winters. That is wild.”
We all looked at one another, unable to hold back our grins. “That is a rather unique name,” I agreed before joining her in laughter.
The fact that she wasn’t irritated at the bizarre name, but just surprised by the fact that she actually had a pack now, was adorable.
I, of course, adored it. Hearing our name on her lips was enough to have me smiling like a loon. Summer was incredible, and even while curled up, choosing takeout, she was one of the best things I’d ever laid eyes on.
Emmett grinned, shaking his head at the funny and quite seasonal name. “Okay, princess, which takeout place sounds good? We’ll eat anything.”
“Pizza?” she asked hopefully.
“Pizza, it is.” Emmett nodded, and Marshall and I were quick to agree. I loved pizza, so they weren’t going to find me complaining.
“Toppings?” I asked, cocking a brow at her. “As long as it’s not anchovies…”
“Ew, no!” Summer squealed, and I couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m pretty simple, really. Pepperoni, and if you’re okay with it, black olives.”
“Ooh, that sounds excellent.” I smiled at Emmett. “Wanna do the honors?”
“I’m on it.” Emmett nodded, taking his phone to the other room to call up our favorite pizza joint. A few moments later, Tobias was already coming down the stairs again. I had to wonder if he’d even used soap.
“It’s wonderful weather, how about we eat outside?” Tobias suggested, towel-drying his hair.
Summer bit her lip. “Will I be able to hear Milo?”
I nodded. “We got a baby monitor you can use, but we can just as easily eat inside. We’ll do whatever you’re comfortable with.”
“A monitor will be perfect, thank you!” She grinned so big that it warmed me through and through.
Emmett vanished upstairs without another word, no doubt collecting the monitor while he talked on the phone.
About thirty or so minutes later, we were settling around the firepit with our pizza. The monitor was sitting near the boxes so that we could hear Milo if he stirred. Summer looked adorably excited about diving into the pizza, grabbing the packet of red pepper flakes and dumping some onto her slice.
Emmett sank down on the couch next to her, and her eyes darted to his plate. “What on earth is that?” she asked, her stare wide.
“Tuna and green olives!”
“On a pizza?!” she gasped.
“Yes, that’s really what he likes to order on his pizza. We’re all disgusted and think he’s wrong in the head.” Tobias laughed, shaking his head.
