I glared playfully. “Fine. The next time you get sick, you’re on your own.”

Noah’s expression dropped as his skin paled slightly. “You know what, never mind. I work with kids. I get sick all the time. All hail the Cold Remedy King.”

“Damn straight.” I nodded seriously.

Summer laughed, but then walked up to me, putting her hand on my shoulder. “Truly, thank you so much. It means a lot. Here’s hoping it helps him.”

I beamed, my chest tight in the best way. “Anytime.”

As far as drugs were concerned, I had a feeling I’d just discovered the most potent one: praise from your omega.

Chapter 15

Summer

“Okay, princess, it’s officially your first day in Willow Grove! What do you want to do?” Emmett asked as he wiped down the kitchen counter.

“I don’t know, you tell me.”

Willow Grove was entirely new to me, so I had no idea what the town had to offer. Plus, I didn’t want to start making demands my first day here; that felt a bit extreme.

“How often does the little guy nap?” he asked.

“Twice a day, usually. He’ll probably fall asleep in about an hour, but that nap will be about forty minutes. Then, at about three, he’ll have a slightly longer one.”

Emmett nodded thoughtfully. “Babies have the right idea. Naps are amazing, aren’t they?”

“Honestly, there aren’t a lot of things that can’t be improved by a good nap and some food,” I agreed.

“Well, how about we relax here this morning while the little man has his nap, and then we go explore the town a bit? I can show you around. I'm sure there’s some shopping you need to do, yeah?”

There was… only, I was broke. I’d spent the last of my money getting to Willow Grove, so I'd have to wait a while before spending any.

“I can’t afford that right now,” I said, waving off his words as I finished up with the toast. “But I would love to get to know the town a little.”

Emmett smirked slightly. “Have you checked your bank account in the last twenty-four hours?”

“N-no, should I?”

“Yeah, all the money in those contracts? That should be with you now. Trust me, you can definitely afford to do a little shopping.”

My words caught in my throat as I pulled out my phone and opened the banking app. “Holy fuck!” I hissed, looking up from my phone, wincing as I glanced at Milo.

Emmett let out a deep laugh. “Don’t worry, princess, I don’t think he’s old enough to understand bad words just yet.”

“Th-his is far more than I thought. I mean, I know I read the contract, but seeing it on paper and seeing it like this are two very different things. And I thought it would take time to get me this money, not like… immediately.”

I was rambling, but I could thank the panic from seeing so many zeros associated with my bank balance. It was more money than I had ever had. It was enough to sustain me and Milo for a long time. I thought Pack Winters were supposed to be a less financially wealthy pack?

“It’s for your security, and we realized as soon as you got here that you were going to need to get things for Milo. It didn’t feel right having you ask us every time you needed something, and we weren’t sure you’d take a pack credit card. So a bank transfer worked perfectly. That money is yours to spend how you see fit. If you want to paint yourself blue and run through the town, do that. Then again, I would suggest green, as it’s a more attractive color with your complexion…”

A bubble of laughter escaped my chest. The absurdity of the situation was wild. I had gone from absolutely nothing to a significant amount in my account overnight.

Emmett smiled at me, rounding the counter and coming to plant a kiss on my forehead, his arm snaking around my waist and pulling me closer. The touch was relaxing and easy. After spending the entire night in his arms, I was used to it. Still, that didn’t mean it wasn’t exciting. His deep spiced apple scent made my blood hum, and I only barely resisted the urge to fist my hands in his shirt and pull him closer.

“Don’t dwell on it today. We’ll relax this morning and just hang out. You can get to know the house, and then after the little man’s had his nap, we’ll go into town.”

“That sounds like a lovely day,” I admitted.
