“How do you know I have a sore throat?”

His brows raised. “You sound like a chain smoker.”

I stuck my tongue out at him.

Ten minutes later, I was sitting up against a small mountain of pillows while Tobias fussed over me.

“I’m fine,” I insisted.

“Let me look after you. It’s almost painful to see my omega suffering and not be able to do anything about it. Please,” he pleaded, giving me wide eyes.

Damn it, he knew exactly what heartstrings to tug at to get what he wanted.

“That’s playing dirty,” I grumbled, leaning back and crossing my arms, pouting at him.

“I am not above playing dirty if it makes you look after yourself and do what you’re told.”

I couldn’t think of a response, so I simply stuck my tongue out at him again, ignoring the way he laughed.

“I’m going to get you something light to eat,” he said, kissing the top of my head and standing up. Instead of turning toward the door, he quietly walked over to Milo’s crib in the adjoining room and checked on our son before heading downstairs.

Ten minutes later, I had a bowl of soup and more water.

“There’s only so many liquids I can consume,” I grumbled, taking a small bite.

“Hydration is king when you are sick. How are you feeling now that the medications had some time to kick in?”

I paused for a moment, taking stock of my body. Everything ached, my sinuses were blocked, and my head was pounding.

“Not great,” I admitted.

“In that case, get some sleep, that’ll help you heal quicker.”

“I can’t, Milo—”

Tobias pinned me with a long look. “Do you think I’m totally incompetent, Summer?”

I spluttered in shock. “No! I—”

He cut me off again. “I can take care of our son for an afternoon. I will take him to his playgroup. Feed him breakfast. If he doesn’t accept the baby mush prepared for him, I know he will eat toast no matter what. At least he’ll eat some of the toast. The rest of it, he’ll get on his face. You need rest, so let me look after you and our boy.”

I opened my mouth to respond, trying to find the right words to say, but was cut off once again by Milo babbling from his crib.

“Speak of the adorable devil!” Tobias grinned, striding over to the nursery and scooping up the baby. “Rise and shine, little man. It looks like we’re going to have some fun today. I happen to know that there is a very fetching set of blocks that need building up and destroying.”

“Tobias…”

It wasn’t that I didn’t think he was capable. It was that he shouldn’t have to be. Milo wasn’t his son. Even though every member of Pack Winters treated him as such didn’t mean I wanted the burden to fall on them.

“Summer, rest. We are going to go have a little boy time. I’ll come up and wake you when you need your next dose of medication.”

“I thought Marshall was the bossy one,” I grumbled.

A smirk spread across Tobias’s face. “Oh, he is. You have that to look forward to.”

I groaned, picking up the blanket and covering my head with it while Tobias left with our baby.
