Without a word he opened the back door, lifted Murphy in, then shut the door gently behind him.

“So.” He shoved his hands in the pockets of his scrubs and looked at me. “Last time,” he said, smiling. “I promise.”

I blinked. I had a feeling I knew what was coming.

“There’s a Halloween party tomorrow night. A friend of mine throws it every year. It’s loud and dumb, and there’s a costume contest.” His mouth kicked up at one corner. “If you maybe wanna go?” He shrugged.

I hesitated, then remembered the promise I’d made myself earlier. I was going to start living my life.

So, I smiled softly up at him. “I’d love that.”

Ben’s whole face lit up. “Yeah?” he asked.

“Yeah.” I nodded. Why the hell not? What did I have to lose?

“Okay.” He laughed and scrubbed a hand through his hair, making it stand up even more than it already did. “Okay. I’ll pick you up at seven.”

“I look forward to it.” I bit my lip.

Okay.

I had a date.

Chapter Eight

Nightmare

I should have stayed my ass in the apartment.

If I had, I wouldn’t be seeing Joy standing in front of her door looking like every man’s wet dream and wishing that I could do something about it.

Fuck. Me.

It was Halloween, and she was tricked all the way out.

My God. I barely kept the groan in my throat from escaping, she looked that fine.

Black miniskirt with black fishnet stockings, and these sexy as fuck stiletto boots that laced clear up to her knees. Holy fuck, I could just picture those boots wrapped around my back while I fucked her hard and fast.

My dick perked up at the thought.

Then there was the black bustier that was doing spectacular things to her tits, and those lips—fuck me—she was wearing bright red lipstick that had me imagining what they would look like wrapped around my cock while I choked her with it.

I was going straight to hell for all the thoughts I was having about Denali’s baby sister, but I was finding it harder and harder to care.

When I got to her hair that was teased out to the heavens, I was damn near drooling.

Joy Cullen was a goddamn knockout. I don’t know how I hadn’t seen it before. Blindness or stupidity? Maybe both? Whatever the reason, I was seeing her now and my resolve was slipping.

“What?” I cleared my throat. “Whatcha all dolled up for, Sweets?”

Sweets? Where the fuck did that come from? I didn’t do pet names for chicks. Ever.

Joy glanced over her shoulder at me, her eyes raking down the length of my body, and for once I wanted to know what she thought. Did I measure up? “None of your business,” she sassed.

My hands flexed at my sides with the urge to grab her or spank her ass. I couldn’t be quite sure which with the current thoughts I was having—or shouldn’t be having—however you wanted to look at it.

“I beg to differ. I’m supposed to keep an eye on you.”
