My brows shot up. “Is she okay?”

“She barely survived.”

Fuck.

“Where is she now?”

Ruthless rubbed at the back of his neck. “Mayhem.”

“I see.”

Denali shifted his weight.

It was all starting to make sense. The expansion into Texas, and why of all places they picked Mayhem.

Blowing out a breath, Denali met my stare. “Ruthless won’t be leaving for a few more months. Until then, he could use your help with his… side project.”

I arched my brow.

“Helping women escape their abusers,” Ruthless clarified.

I didn’t have to think about it. “I’m in,” I said. “How can I help?”

And that was how I found myself drawn even deeper into the Cullen family.

A while later, I pulled into the clubhouse parking lot.

I’d spent most of the morning shopping for shit for my apartment, and the afternoon and evening moving it in.

Now, all that was left was the shit in the room Denali had let me stay in until I figured shit out.

I wasn’t sure if I’d figured shit out, but I did now have a new apartment and a job.

Throwing a leg over my sled, I opened my saddlebag and pulled out the backpack I’d brought along with me.

All the shit in my room should fit. I didn’t have much. A few tees and a couple pairs of jeans. Some toiletries, a handful of books, and a folder with my important papers in it.

My eyes struggled to adjust to the dim light as I stepped inside.

“Nightmare!”

I glanced to the back of the common room. Ruthless was at a table in the back of the room waving his arms around.

Scattered around him was Denali, and a group of men I’d never seen before.

There were five of them.

Big dudes with military haircuts.

Strolling over, I lifted my chin.

“Have a seat,” Ruthless said, kicking a chair out from under the table.

I sat down just as Sugar, a busty half-naked clubgirl slid a cold one in front of me. “Here ya’ go, hun.”

Accepting the bottle of brew, I shot her a wink. “Thanks, darlin'."

Sugar was a sweet girl I’d slept with a couple of times since joining the club. She was one of the good ones who didn’t think sex meant more than it was—a physical release.
