“That guy is not good enough for you,” I say so loudly he steps back, as if trying to melt into the wall. Guilt stabs at my chest, and I show him the palms of my hands despite my heart thrashing like a caged rat. “Look, you told me it’s over. What was the point of me coming out and telling everyone that I’m the other guy in the video? What good could it possibly do?”
I could have given him support. And if I, Vex, turned out to be present in the video, it would have taken attention off the anonymous gay dude fucking me in the museum.
We both know it, no matter how badly I want to deny it.
So maybe I am scum after all.
His eyes are so cold they could freeze and shatter my bones. “Not even a text, Vex. I had to deal with it all on my own. And now you drag me here to tell me you don’t like the look of my date?”
“Because he’s a piece of trash,” I growl, gesturing toward the mouth of the alley as anger roasts my brain. “He has ‘criteria’? And interviews you like you’re applying for a job? What the fuck? Someone like him should be grateful you bothered to look his way.”
Aaron shakes his head. “What are you really trying to tell me here? Look around. This is what we’ve been doing. It’s the best metaphor for us. In a dark alley, behind a dumpster. This is what you want.”
I stall under the weight of his accusation, but I’m already shaking my head. “No, that’s not it. I just didn’t want trouble. I thought you understood that.”
“I had more time than I’d like to think about it all over the holidays, and I think you’re ashamed of me. You’re ashamed of who you like, and no amount of compliments in private can fix that. How do you think I felt when you flirted with girls all the time? I thought I’d be fine with it, I didn’t prod you, but that video broke the camel’s back. I can’t pretend that I’m happy taking things one day at a time.”
I cup his face so that he can’t look away, but as I touch his warm, smooth face, I’m struck with a deep longing that courses through me from the toes of my feet to the tip of my head.
I’ve missed him.
“I was never ashamed of you! I would never hide you if I was out. You have to believe me.” I’m breathless when his green eyes focus on me, and I stroke his cheeks with my thumbs, leaning over him.
I’ve been so damn stupid. Of course he’s not just a friend, and he never was, because contrary to what he seems to believe, he is everything I need in a guy. If only I met him in a better time.
He watches me in the prolonged silence, and I wish I knew what he’s thinking. But at least he doesn’t slip out of my grasp.
It’s time to take my chances and lure him back in. I don’t know what I want after that just yet, I haven’t thought this through, but I know I don’t want Ken, or any other fucker, touching Aaron. I have to make him see he needs to be mine. That I’m indispensable to him.
He doesn’t push me away when I make our lips meet but puts those dainty hands of his on my chest. I love it so much that he’s so gentle and so completely different from me. I groan in pleasure and relief when I slide my hands under his coat and then to his ass. He’s so perfect, warm, and smells so nice I could eat him up.
So maybe for now our life is in fact a dark alley behind a dumpster, but if he waits a little longer, gives me a year or two, we could make it work.
Hope is a bright light inside me, and as I taste his lips with my tongue, I am certain that I want him in every way.
“Did your tight little hole miss me?” I grunt against his lips, eager to get him horny, get him hooked on me.
Aaron’s green eyes fly open as if he just regained consciousness. He pushes on my chest a little. “No. We’re not fucking here.”
I soothe him with a kiss to his forehead. “We could go to mine. Talk, and then maybe do something else—”
The struggle to deny me is written all over his face. I shouldn’t be, but I’m glad that he finds this so difficult. It means I still have him hooked.
But he pushes me away and slides out of my grip. “No. I can’t do this. And you trying to just seduce me is such a low move, Vex.” I try to grab his hand, but he jumps away like a cat afraid of a snake. “We’re done here.”
I feel as if he punched me in the gut, but I know he has every right to hate me, so I whine, “Please, don’t go.”
My heart skips a beat when he hesitates, but then he doesn’t just turn around and leave. He runs. All of my instincts kick in and I want to chase him, but I’m not an animal.
Crushed, I lean against the wall, then slide down it, not even caring that I’ve just sat in a puddle. I‘ve fucked up so bad. So bad. He’s right. I should have called him. I shouldn’t have been so cold at the police station. I should have remembered his birthday and not been so fucking selfish.
How dare I demand his forgiveness after all the shit I’ve pulled?
But despite knowing that I deserve his contempt, I still ache thinking we might truly be over after this.
I freeze when something shifts down the alley, and then, someone gives a slow clap.
“Bravo. That was... something,” says a quiet voice, and I immediately pull myself up, seeking the fucker who invaded my privacy.
