She shook her head as our eyes met and held. “How was I lucky enough to find you?” she asked. “You’re such an amazing man, Brock.”
I grinned at her. “I’m glad you think so, but I’m far from perfect. I’m not sure I’ve handled this relationship well. I think I’ve been pushing for too much too soon, Jenna.”
“The commitment thing?” she asked.
I nodded. “That was probably fucked up.”
“No, it wasn’t,” she denied. “It was honest. There’s nothing wrong with asking for what you want or need in a relationship. I wouldn’t know from experience, but that’s the way I want a relationship to be.”
“Forget about what I want,” I said. “When are you thinking about that surgery?”
“I’m not sure,” she answered. “I’d have to get through my personal appearances in the next few months and not schedule anything new. I’m going to need time to heal. The doctor said it could take a year before I see the final aesthetic outcome. The healing process is long and gradual.”
“Will it be painful?” I asked, concerned.
“Not that painful. Maybe a little in the very beginning,” she replied. “It’s just a long healing process.”
I shrugged. “I can live in California as long as you need me.”
Her eyes widened. “You can’t just drop your life in Michigan to live in California.”
“I can work anywhere, and my life in Michigan won’t be the same without you.”
Shit! Wasn’t that the truth?
I was going to end up a very frequent visitor to California anyway if she was still living there.
“I think I’d be okay if you’d just be there in the beginning. I think I’ll be a little nervous.”
Nah! That wasn’t going to cut it, but we could discuss how long I’d stay there at a later date.
“I’ll be there as long as you need me,” I told her as I leaned forward to kiss her.
She grasped my biceps tightly and returned the embrace with so much fire that it made my dick twitch.
I put a possessive hand to the nape of her neck and pulled her closer, deepening the kiss like a man starved.
“Thank you,” she murmured as I finally released her lips reluctantly. “Thank you for always listening to me and supporting me.”
“That’s something you should always expect from a partner, baby,” I replied before I kissed her forehead and got to my feet.
“You know it’s not something I’ve ever had before,” she said as she took my outstretched hand and let me pull her up. “It means a lot to me. Sometimes I’m afraid that I don’t know how to be a supportive partner.”
I shot her a disbelieving look. “Are you serious? Jenna, you’re a woman who gives too much and expects too damn little. You came here to Michigan to take care of me and help me. You cooked for me every damn day. You did things that you weren’t comfortable with just to make me happy. You give better than you take, and that’s something I’m always going to have to watch so I don’t ever take advantage of your naturally sweet nature. If I ever needed you, I have zero doubt that you’d drop everything to be there to support me. So don’t ever think that you don’t know how to be a supportive partner. You’re already there, baby.”
She squeezed my hand and sighed. “Exactly how long do you need me to wait to tell you that I want to make that commitment you want? I know you told me to wait, but I’m a little tired of waiting. It’s been three days. I’d like to talk about how exactly this commitment will work. I think I’ve been yours since the first time you kissed me. I’m definitely yours now. You’ve seen me naked. That never would have happened if I wasn’t all in. I trust you like I’ve never trusted anyone before. I’ve waited my entire adult life to meet you, too. I might be wary, but I’m definitely not stupid. I want you to be mine, Brock Miller. I want a future together. Is it too early to tell you that?”
I froze, and I swore my damn heart seized inside my chest.
I crowded Jenna against a big tree and caged her in with my arms.
Our gazes met, and I knew I was probably looking at her like a desperate lunatic, but I didn’t give a shit.
I was pretty sure that Jenna Moran was about to give me exactly what I wanted.
