That relationship was a crazy second-chance romance that involved a child that Marshall had never known about and had eventually initiated a move for Emma and her daughter to San Diego to be with Marshall.

Emma, Marshall, and their daughter had finally gotten a happily ever after.

Unfortunately for Sara, that meant that her best friend wasn’t close by anymore, but Sara’s complaints about that move were halfhearted since she seemed to be extremely happy for Emma.

Sara’s relationship with the group of men was strictly platonic, but I was starting to wonder if she didn’t wish that things were a little different.

She joked around with all the guys, but there was something about the way she looked at Nate that made me think she might like him as something more than just a friend.

And I was pretty sure those feelings were mutual.

Nate looked at Sara like he wanted far more than a friendly hug from her.

But it just didn’t make sense that they harbored feelings for each other, so maybe I was wrong.

They’d known each other for a long time and there was no reason that the two of them couldn’t have acted on an attraction if it really existed.

They were both single and unattached.

“Feeling better tonight?” Brock asked as he stood in the kitchen with me to keep me company while I cooked.

His cooking skills really weren’t great, but he made up for that by being incredibly helpful in other ways.

He was extremely good at finding me whatever I needed and helping with the dishes.

“Much better,” I said with a happy sigh. “I thoroughly washed my hair for the first time in weeks. I could actually scrub my scalp without the staples. I can’t say they were painful, but they were irritating and itchy. It was such a relief when they took them out today.”

It had been a week since Brock and I had arrived in Cherry Cove, and I’d finally gotten the staples removed at the small clinic in town.

I felt like a new person.

It helped that my bruises were nearly healed, and I was starting to feel like myself again.

Brock was healing, too, and the doctor was allowing him to take his arm out of the sling now as long as Brock avoided any heavy activities and lifting with that arm.

His nerve needed more time to heal, but he was making good progress.

He jokingly complained that he still couldn’t type well, but he seemed to be enjoying his time with his friends and showing me around Cherry Cove.

The town itself was charming, and the views of Lake Michigan were stunning. Small-town life was a huge change from the frantic pace in Los Angeles.

Spending every day with Brock’s friends was new for me.

I was used to solitude.

But I was actually starting to enjoy the social interaction every day.

Sara and Brock’s team were genuinely good people, and they treated me almost like…a new friend.

Since Nina had moved to Australia, I’d become kind of a recluse.

I guess I’d never realized how much I’d missed having company sometimes.

Brock had asked me if I minded having the group over for dinner tonight.

Strangely, I hadn’t minded at all. My evenings were quiet at home, and it was fun for me to cook for other people instead of just myself.

He’d suggested ordering food so that I wasn’t cooking for a crowd, but I’d been adamant about cooking a nice meal.
