Conner Moran was feared by many all over the world.

That was how he’d simply made a phone call and guaranteed Jenna’s safety.

Conner had connections with criminal organizations everywhere, and he had more allies than enemies.

Most smart criminals didn’t want to piss him off.

He’d gained himself one hell of a reputation since he’d left the Army Rangers.

I didn’t judge Conner, even though I hated some of the things he did.

He’d had his reasons for choosing his path, and we’d shared the loss of a good friend that day that I’d saved his life by taking out a tango before he could blow Conner’s head off.

We shared the same memorial tattoo for our lost friend, and it was impossible to forget that.

We rarely spoke anymore because we’d taken different paths in life, but we’d always have that bond between the two of us.

As long as he never screwed me over, I’d always consider him a trusted friend.

Of course, that friendship hadn’t been tested since he’d gone to the dark side, and I hoped to hell that he still had some code of honor for the people he called his friends.

He was a cold-blooded murderer.

This whole thing was a risk, but I had to hope there was some of the old Conner deep down in his black soul.

“No one is going to harm her,” he said in a deadly calm voice. “She’ll be drugged until we get there.”

I clenched my fists, my rage barely contained. “Is that supposed to make me feel better?”

He shrugged casually. “It’s better than being raped, tortured, or dead. And she’ll remember very little of this trip to Ecuador. If they touch her, they’ll pay for it with their lives. They know that. She’s under my protection now.”

“Is this cartel your friend or foe?” I questioned.

“Neither,” Conner answered. “Anyone who’s in the skin trade is never going to be an ally to me. But they haven’t done anything to piss me off yet. Not until they decided to take Jenna. That annoys me. The one responsible for it will die and the others will be on notice.”

“I’ll kill the bastard myself,” I growled.

Conner straightened the lapel of his custom suit as he answered, “He’s not worth breaking a sweat. I’ll take care of it. You have a conscience. I don’t. Take your woman and go. Your job is to get her to safety. I’ll be staying with a few of my men for a few days. I have some business with some others that live in South America. They’ll be meeting me in Guayaquil.”

Conner had brought his own backup: his second-in-command and a few trusted and deadly men who would give their lives to protect him.

They were currently sleeping in the back of the jet.

He’d said the magic words that would get me the hell out of South America as soon as possible.

Jenna was my priority, and I would get her out of the clutches of that fucking cartel.

I wanted revenge, but I wanted Jenna out of danger more.

Conner would absolutely take care of Rico. Part of me actually reveled in the fact that the asshole would probably be tortured before Conner offed him.

Rico or anyone else in that fucking cartel would never threaten Jenna again.

I was good knowing that he’d never be able to touch my woman again.

I finally nodded.

All I really wanted was to get Jenna home.
