He looked almost sheepish.
“You’re going to think this is nuts, but I’ve thought about teaching high school. I’m qualified to teach health and physical fitness, and I could coach at the high school level.”
When I gave him an encouraging smile he continued, “I know they struggle to find teachers because the pay is so low, but I don’t need the money. I’ve invested well over the years. I don’t need to work again after this season.”
Robbie had always been thrifty in college, and I was glad that hadn’t changed. You didn’t grow up around professional athletes without seeing case after case of athletes blowing through their millions and then being left destitute after their bodies finally gave out.
“I think that’s awesome,” I told him sincerely. “You’d be a great teacher.”
We finished dinner and continued talking long after my one-hour limit was over. Just like when we were younger, I found I could talk to Robbie for hours. Once he got over his initial shyness with people, he was an engaging conversationalist, well read, and he didn’t need to dominate the conversation like so many men did.
“I should probably head home,” I finally said, surprised to realize that I felt regretful about ending our time together.
“I’ll walk you to your car.”
I didn’t argue, but I did have to ask, “How did you know which one was my car?”
“Lucky guess.”
I raised my eyebrows at him, and he admitted, “You were parked in a reserved spot, and I saw your lucky St. Christopher medal hanging from the rear-view mirror.”
I couldn’t help but laugh, surprised at how much he remembered about me. Although I remembered everything about him too.
By the time we reached my car, it was dark, and the lot was empty, lit only by the overhead lights from the building. I clicked my key ring, unlocking my door, and turned back to look at Robbie.
“Thanks for dinner.”
He stepped closer, crowding me against the car door, although not in a way that made me feel nervous. Instead, it made me feel...excited.
“What are you doing?” I asked, my voice husky.
He reached one hand up to brush a stray lock of hair behind my ear.
“Testing a theory.”
And then Robbie Mason was kissing me.
Robbie
Kissing Violet again after all these years felt like coming home. I lifted my hands to the car roof on either side of her head, shifting closer until I was surrounding her much smaller frame. When she didn’t push me away, I licked along the seam of her lips.
She opened her mouth with a sigh, and I swooped inside, our tongues dueling for control. It had always been like this. My Violet was no delicate flower and she’d always been an active participant in our lovemaking, something I’d always appreciated about her. No guy wanted to do all the work. Well, most guys anyway.
Violet’s hands crept around my waist, pulling me closer still and I saw her eyes pop open when she felt my erection growing against her belly. I pulled back just enough to talk.
“I forgot the way I could just kiss you for hours.”
To my shock, she lifted one hand to the back of my head and pulled me back down for another kiss. Violet was tall for a woman, but I still had several inches on her. The instant our mouths touched again she shoved her tongue into my mouth, taking the lead, and kissing me until we were both breathless.
When we separated again, we just stared into each other’s eyes for a long moment. A series of emotions seemed to swirl in Violet’s eyes, from confusion to shock to lust. God help me, I wanted nothing more than to take her back to my place and fuck her until she forgot her own name.
Or we could go to her place, I wasn’t picky.
But I also knew Violet well enough to know that she was going to need some time to process everything that had happened. If I pushed her too hard, she’d push back. I just needed to be patient, no matter how hard my dick was right now.
“I guess I should let you head home.”
She looked surprised. “Oh. Um, okay.”
