I looked down to where Allen’s head was resting on my belly, as if he’d been too exhausted to move all the way up to the pillows after he made me come on his talented tongue.
“We were working remember?” I laughed. “Saving Texas from the ravages of hurricanes.”
“More like saving people from their own damned stupidity.”
We’d treated a lot of people who’d been rescued by the National Guard after getting caught in flood waters or downed buildings. People who would have been safe if they’d obeyed orders for mandatory evacuation. It was a source of frustration for all of us who’d come here to help. Resources that could have been used for other purposes had to be diverted to save people like the guy who’d tried to choke me today, a guy who proudly told us that he would never leave his house no matter what the ‘candy ass bureaucrats’ told him to do.
I ran my nails across Allen’s scalp, wishing he had just a little bit longer hair. Just enough for a girl to hold onto.
“Anyway, that was incredible Allen, really. I’d give you an A for effort.”
He propped himself up on one elbow and gave me a mock glare. “You’ve had two orgasms in the last hour, darlin’. What’s a guy gotta do to get an A-plus out of you?”
I heard a knock on the door. Finally, our dinner was here, and just in time. I was starving.
“Feed me, then see if you can give me orgasm number three. That’ll definitely improve your grade.”

“I’m glad I convinced you to have dinner with me.”
Allen wiped his mouth, leaving a tiny smear of barbecue sauce at the corner that I was dying to lick off. I hadn’t been this horny since...well, the last time I’d been with Allen.
“You said you’re single, right?” I asked.
He nodded.
“That means no girlfriend or significant other.”
Another nod as he clearly tried to figure out where I was going with this. He lifted his beer bottle to his mouth and almost choked as I asked, “Do you want to screw once for old time’s sake?”
He cleared his throat a few times.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“We’re clearly still attracted to each other, as you pointed out. That kiss earlier was super-hot, right?”
“Riiight.”
“It’s been...a while for me. I was thinking if you were amenable, we could go back to my place and take care of some needs. Just for one time with no strings attached. We had a lot of fun last time, remember?”
“Oh, I remember.”
Allen stared at me for so long that I started to think I’d misunderstood the situation. He’d been the one to initiate the kiss and he’d also been the one who kept rubbing his knees against mine under the table. But maybe I’d imagined the whole thing. Maybe, like a lot of guys, he wasn’t attracted to forty-four year old women who’d gotten a little softer around the middle, no matter how much pilates they did.
“Look, never mind. I take it back,” I said, hearing the frost in my voice. “Forget I said anything. I’m sorry for making things awkward.”
“You can’t take it back once it’s out there,” he said with a touch of exasperation.
“I can see you’re not into it and that’s totally fine. I get it. I just misread the situation.”
Allen reached across the table and grabbed my hand. I had a tendency to wave them around when I was animated.
“You didn’t misread the situation at all, darlin’. I just needed some time for the blood to return to my brain. It all headed south there for a minute.”
“That’s not how blood flow works,” I said inanely.
“Oh, that’s exactly how it works, trust me.” He squeezed my hand. “I’m intrigued by your offer, but what if I want more than one night?”
