Winter Fucked Me Up

“Some mistakes become regrets.

Others become obsessions.” — K

I should be writing. I should be doing a thousand other things instead of standing in the dark like a fucking psychopath, watching a woman skate across my frozen lake in the middle of the night.

And yet, here I am.

To be fair, it’s my lake.

That makes it slightly less creepy.

Right?

No, you fuck.

After dinner, I retreated to my music room to finish the song I’d been working on for two days. The same song that’s been stuck in my head since I first saw the little nightmare.

She did shit, and somehow, she inspired a fucking song.

Unbelievable.

I should be working, not watching the woman who’s become a problem in a matter of days.

My problem.

The thought pisses me off enough to consider leaving.

Almost.

Instead, I watch through the trees as she glides across the ice beneath the moonlight.

When Artemis first saw the lake, she looked at it like a starving person looks at food. Like she’d found something she hadn’t realized she needed.

Her eyes widened. She went completely still, staring at the ice as if it were calling to her.

I should’ve ignored it.

Instead, I stopped playing the piano and followed her outside, keeping far enough away that she wouldn’t notice me.

Which brings me back to standing in the fucking dark, watching her skate.

Definitely not creepy.

Psychopath.
