It’s terrifying how obsessed everyone around me is with love and happy endings.

Love is a parasite.

I refuse to let it get me.

“Thank you for breakfast,” I say, changing the subject. “But I’ll eat on the way.”

Mrs. Han blinks. “On the way?”

“Yes. Back to Seoul. I’ll be more comfortable in a hotel.” I pause. “Which one is closest?”

She looks at me as if I’ve announced plans to swim naked to New York.

Before she can answer, another voice cuts in. “Morning, my cloudy menace. I’m afraid that’s not happening.”

I turn.

Mika walks into the room carrying a cup of coffee, looking far too calm. That’s never a good sign.

Mrs. Han glances between us.

“Why?” I ask.

Mika sighs.

I frown. “Mika, what do you mean, that’s not happening?”

Instead of answering, she points toward the window.

I follow her gaze to find that the snow has gotten worse than it was ten minutes ago.

My stomach drops.

“No.”

Mika nods. “Yes.”

“No.”

“Historic storm. I caught the news before I lost signal.”

“No.”

“It’s national news.”

“No.”

“All flights out of the country are grounded.”

I stare at her.

“And the roads?”

“Closed.”

Surely, she’s joking.

“You’re messing with me.”
