“Again,” he demanded, establishing a rhythm that was just shy of punishing. “Tell me who you belong to.”

“You,” I managed between thrusts, each one hitting that perfect spot inside me. “You, Shep, only you!”

His pace increased, his control slipping as the animal in him took over. One hand left my hip to wrap around my leaking cock, stroking me in counterpoint to his thrusts. The dual stimulation was overwhelming, pleasure building with each movement until I felt myself teetering on the edge.

“Shep,” I warned, feeling my climax approaching. “I’m going to—”

“Not yet,” he growled, his hand tightening around me, staving off my release. “With me. You come with me.”

I nodded frantically, beyond words, focusing all my effort on holding back the tide. His thrusts became more erratic, his breathing harsh in my ear. I could feel the base of his cock swelling slightly—not the full knot he’d mentioned, but enough to create an additional stretch each time he drove home.

“Now,” he finally growled, his teeth closing on the juncture of my neck and shoulder in a bite that would definitely leave a mark. “Now, Evan!”

The combination of pain and pleasure pushed me over the edge. I came with a shout, my body clenching around him as waves of pleasure crashed through me. He followed immediately, his release hot and copious inside me, his body shuddering against mine as he growled his satisfaction against my skin.

Chapter 6

For several long moments, we stayed frozen in that position, his weight pressing me into the mattress, his teeth still gently clamped on my shoulder. When he finally released me, it was to lick apologetically at the mark he’d left.

“Sorry,” he murmured, his voice still rough but more human than before. “Got carried away.”

I turned my head to look at him, surprised to see his features had partially shifted back toward human, though his eyes still glowed gold in the dim light. “I’m not complaining,” I assured him, my voice hoarse from shouting.

His smile was tender as he carefully withdrew from me, both of us wincing slightly at the separation. He disappeared briefly into what I assumed was an attached bathroom, returning with a warm washcloth to clean us both with surprising gentleness.

When he finally settled beside me, pulling me against his still-too-hot body, I felt myself relaxing into his embrace without reservation.

“You okay?” he asked, his hand stroking lazy patterns on my back. “I didn’t hurt you?”

I shook my head, too content to be bothered by the ache I knew I’d feel tomorrow. “I’m perfect.”

His chuckle vibrated against my cheek. “Yes, you are.”

We lay in comfortable silence for a while, his heartbeat strong and steady beneath my ear. Eventually, curiosity overcame my post-coital lethargy.

“So what happens now?” I asked. “With the full moon, I mean. Do you need to… hunt or something?”

His laugh was warm and amused. “I’m not a slave to the moon, Evan. I choose when to shift fully.” His arms tightened around me. “Though I usually do run on full moon nights. Feels good to let the wolf out completely.”

“Oh.” I was silent for a moment, considering. “Can I… would it be okay if I watched? When you change?”

He leaned back to look at my face, surprise evident in his expression. “You want to see that?”

I nodded, scientific fascination overtaking any potential fear. “If you’re comfortable with it.”

Something soft passed across his features. “You really aren’t afraid of me, are you?”

“Should I be?” I countered, echoing our earlier exchange.

His smile showed those still-slightly-too-sharp teeth. “Most people would be.”

“I’m not most people,” I reminded him. “I have a master’s degree in risk assessment. You’re not a risk to me.”

He laughed, the sound rich and warm. “God, you’re something else.” He leaned in to kiss me softly, then pulled away with a sigh. “Alright, Inspector. You can observe. For science.”

I tried not to look too eager as he extracted himself from our embrace and stood beside the bed. In the moonlight streaming through the windows, his body was a study in power and grace, still caught somewhere between human and wolf.

“Stay here,” he instructed, moving toward the bedroom door. “I need space for this.”
