She arched against him, her legs still wrapped around his waist and he felt the heat of her soaking into him.

But they were going fast. Too fast. He was going to remap her body until he could never, ever forget it.

He slid his mouth down her stomach and, on instinct, nipped her side, drawing a quick flinch and a giggle.

He froze for half a second. He’d known she was ticklish there. Some deep, dark part of him had simply known. He soothed the tiny nip with his tongue, then moved lower before looking up as he unbuttoned her pants.

She propped herself on her elbows and watched him, all restraint gone. This was Jordan unfettered. Her hair hung sleek around her shoulders, her mouth swollen from his kisses, her eyes deep and slumberous.

“When it’s my turn, I’m gonna eat you alive,” she said, her voice a silky promise.

“Me first.”

He slid her shorts and panties down in one quick pull, wrenching another laugh from her, then drew his fingers through her slickness. He looked back up, locking his gaze with hers and very deliberately licked his fingers. She made a low moan that he matched as the taste of her rocketed through him, making him ravenous for more. And as he licked and tasted and explored she writhed beneath him, her body going slick with sweat and making his cock throb even more.

“Benito,” she breathed. “I need you.”

Reality punched through the haze. “Tell me you have a condom,” he ground out.

She looked up at him through eyes gone hazy with need. “I can’t have kids.” She opened her arms to him. “Now come down here.” Her breath caught before she whispered, “Make love to me like you remember.”

His heart turned over in his chest. “I’ll do better.” He lowered himself over her and touched his forehead to hers. “I’ll love you like it’s the first time.” Then he sank into her welcoming heat.

Everything in his world seemed to come to a halt as a bone-deep emotion swamped him, as he held tight to his restraint, to what little control he still had.

He didn’t remember this, but his body did.

Every touch felt instinctive. Every response from her seemed to call up some answering knowledge buried inside him. He knew when to slow down, when to kiss her, when to hold her tighter.

Her fingernails dug into his back as they moved together, neither of them rushing now.

This didn’t feel like a furious first time. It felt like two lovers whose bodies remembered what their minds could not. When they finally came apart in each other’s arms, Benny held her tightly, her name on his lips.

Chapter Eleven

Jordan woke as the afternoon sun sliced through the window and across her face. Beside her, Benny lightly snored, one arm tossed across her waist.

It was just like they’d always slept.

She tried to condemn herself for being ten kinds of fool.

She shouldn’t have slept with him. He was the epitome of vulnerability, having lost an entire year of his life and so much of himself along with it. But damned if their bodies hadn’t remembered exactly how to respond to each other. Hadn’t remembered how perfectly they fit together.

She had no idea where they would go from here, but in this moment, she allowed herself to be content. Allowed herself to remember what had been. Allowed herself to fantasize, just the tiniest bit, about what could be.

Benny’s arm tightened around her and she smiled in response. This was familiar too, and she welcomed it.

Then he rolled her beneath him. Apparently round two was going to start with him on top again.

Jordan grinned wider and reversed their positions. Not this time.

When they finally surfaced in the early evening, they were ravenous and headed to the kitchen without speaking. Plus, it was time to feed Spot.

The cat, long used to them disappearing into the bedroom for hours, was perched on the back of the couch, peering out the front window with interest. When she didn’t come running at the sound of the can opening, Jordan walked over to her. “What do you see out there, girl?”

The street was empty save for a white panel van parked three houses down that hadn’t been there when they arrived.
