“That you gone be my baby mama one day.” He smirked before taking another bite of his food.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. “You get on my damn nerves.”
He laughed, and I went back to eating. After a few minutes, I figured since he was asking me about my past relationships, I might as well ask him about his.
“What about you? You ever been in a relationship?”
“Yeah, I was.” He nodded, reaching for his wine.
“Okay, and what happened?”
“She died.”
I stopped cutting my food and looked up at him. That was the last thing I expected him to say.
“Wait, what?”
“She passed away.”
“Damn, Cassian. What happened?”
He sat back in his chair for a moment. “It's a long story.”
“Okay, and we got time.”
I wasn't trying to make him talk about something he didn't want to discuss, but I was curious. Especially since he'd said it so casually.
“We got into a car accident,” he finally told me. “We were coming from homecoming, and another car hit us head-on.”
“Damn.” I set my fork down. “Were y'all in high school?”
“Yeah. We had been together for a minute.”
“So she died in the accident?”
He nodded. “Yeah.”
I looked at him, my fork resting on the edge of my plate. I’d expected a breakup or somebody cheating. Not that.
“I'm sorry to hear that, Cassian.”
“It's cool, ma. That shit happened a long time ago.”
I nodded, giving him a moment before picking my fork back up.
“So, have you dated anybody else since then?”
“Nah. I just fucked bitches.”
I shook my head. “That's crazy.”
“How is it crazy?” He laughed.
“Because it is. You went from losing somebody you cared about to just fucking different women.”
“Who said I was fucking random bitches, though?” He smirked.
“Because I'm sure you met half of them at school or in somebody's club.”
