“You done tasted it twice!”

“And I'm finna taste it a third time if you move your hand.”

She started laughing, shaking her head at me.

“Damn, I'm gone have to take some of this shit to go,” I told her.

“Boy, you ain't even been here five minutes, and you already talking about taking food home.”

“Hell yeah. You know I don't play about my food.”

“I know. That's why I'm surprised yo' ass ain't fat,” she said, laughing.

“Yeah, me too.” I laughed along with her.

“But where is Shakaylen? She didn't come with you?”

“Nah, she's at the house. She got something going on with her mama and sister.”

“Oh, so her mama knows what happened?”

“Yeah, she knows.” I nodded.

“Good, because I still think that's fucked up what her daddy did.”

“Yeah, you and me both.”

She shook her head before turning her attention back to what she was doing. “But go ahead in the den with your pops. Some of his boys are over here.”

“You sure? You don't need no help?” I asked, already rolling up my sleeves.

I didn't have an issue with helping my mama around the kitchen if she needed me to. Shit, it wasn't like I had anything else to do.

“Yeah, baby, I'm sure. Now go on.” She waved me off, shooing me out of the kitchen.

I laughed and headed toward the den. Before I could even get to the doorway, I heard my pops and his boys in there hollering at the TV. They were watching the Cowboys game, and one thing about my pops, that nigga didn't play when it came to his damn Cowboys. He took that shit way too seriously.

“Aw, bruh, come the fuck on! What the hell you doing?” I heard my pops shout, followed by something slamming against the table.

“I told you them niggas was gone lose. They sorry as hell,” one of his boys said.

“What the fuck you just say to me, nigga?” my pops snapped.

I shook my head, laughing to myself. I didn't know why this nigga even let some slick shit come out of his mouth when he knew how my pops got about the Cowboys. He had to know that shit wasn't about to go over well.

When I walked into the den, my pops was already in the nigga's face with his gun pointed right at his head.

“Repeat what the fuck you just said, motherfucker,” he told him, his finger resting on the trigger.

“Man, Vernell, calm the fuck down. It ain't that serious,” another one of his boys said.

My pops cut his eyes over at him before looking back at the nigga standing in front of him. He gave a little smirk and nodded his head like he was thinking about what he wanted to do.

That motherfucker was crazy as hell. I knew my ass could get stupid, too, but I picked and chose when it was worth taking shit there. I had a business to run, and half the time, these niggas wasn't even worth the headache.

“Damn, Pops, you finna kill the nigga over an opinion?” I asked, laughing as I made my presence known.

“Hell yeah.” He nodded like it was the most normal shit in the world. “You know how I am.”
