“Say less. Just let me know when to pull the fire out.”
I nodded before Duke reached over and turned my radio up himself, blasting Mind Went Blank by Pointblank.
I drove over to Sunnyside, dipping in and out of traffic, not speeding because I knew exactly where I was going, and there was no rush.
When we pulled up to Dragon’s trap spot, Duke looked out the window.
“Hold on, nigga what the fuck we doing over here with these bum ass niggas? Ain’t this the spot Dragon pop his shit at?”
“Yeah, it is.” I reached under my seat, grabbing my gun.
“Okay, but that's not telling me why the fuck we over here.”
“Nigga if you let me speak, I can tell you.”
“I’m listening.” Duke leaned back against the door.
“Dragon pulled up to my house today and had Kharti in his car. Now I know I could’ve asked her what that shit was about, but I figured why not come to the source first before asking her. Shit I'm sure she is not going to do shit but lie about it.”
“Okay, and he could too.”
“Nah, I don’t think so. The kind of nigga I hear he is, he will want to brag about popping my wife if that's the case. Plus, I need to let this nigga know that coming to my spot was never a smart move for him. I’ve killed niggas for fuckin less.”
I said through gritted teeth.
“Oh, there he goes.” Duke started to grin again.
“There is the nigga I remember terrorizing the city back in the day. My favorite brother of them all. The one that didn’t give a fuck.”
“Yeah, he back for today. I don’t play about where I lay my fuckin head. Let’s go.” I replied, and Duke jumped out of the car before I did.
When we walked up to the yard, the two niggas hanging on the porch were looking at us crazy for stepping foot over here. Niggas in Dragon’s crew had been in the streets for years, and all of them had gray hair. They were old, washed up, and none of them put fear in my heart.
“Can we help you two niggas?” The old man with the grayest hair asked.
“We looking for Dragon. That nigga in there?”
He looked over his shoulder and smirked.
“I don’t know if he’s in there, homie. I just got here.”
Before I could ask another question, Duke punched him in the mouth, knocking him to the ground after one swift motion.
Duke bent down and grabbed him by the collar, almost lifting him off the ground with one arm.
“Listen, you Grady looking muthafucka. One thing I don’t allow is a nigga lying to my brother or me. Now, is he in there?”
“Yeah, yes he is damn.” He nodded anxiously, answering straight up this time.
“Now get out of this yard and go drink a fuckin Ensure before I insure you dead by the time it’s nightfall.”
He dropped him back to the ground, and him and his other scared ass patna left the yard without saying another word. That told me they weren’t strapped. Shit Dragon probably didn’t allow guns around him because he was the kind that only wanted power in his hands.
We walked into the front door, making our way down a small hallway before we found the living room where none other than Dragon was sitting in a bright red La-Z-Boy with a cloud of smoke floating above his black ass. The living room was clouded in smoke, but I could see that this wasn’t your average trap house because of how laid out it was. Shit, the more I looked around, the more it looked like this nigga was actually living in here. There were black suede couches, a big ass television on the wall, and other homely shit inside, including a big ass painting of a dragon blowing fire over the fake fireplace.
He leaned forward making his chair squeak.
“Caine and Duke Essex. What the fuck are you niggas doing in here? There ain’t no chicken frying in the kitchen.” He laughed, bouncing his shoulders before he ashed the cigar in his hand.
