She sighs again and rolls her eyes. “I’m here to drop something off to your dad, per the instructions of my mum.” She holds up a black USB stick and my nose scrunches. “And me and Father Michaels were discussing engagement arrangements.” She grins.
I ignore her last statement, the little black stick capturing all my interest. “What’s on it?”
She shrugs, inspecting it. “I don’t know—she just told me to bring it.”
“Look—” I swallow. “I could really use that right now. But we cannot sleep together anymore,” I say slowly, like trying to tame a wild animal. I shouldn’t be threatening her.
Her head slowly tilts. “Why not?”
“Because…” I can’t tell her it’s because I’m in love with my fucking stepsister who hates me. That might even put Jordan on her shit-list, and I don’t want Lacey anywhere near her. If she doesn’t tell Heath and he hurts her, she’ll hurt Jordie herself. And Lacey’s connections are dangerous. Who knows what she’d do if she found out about Jordan. “I can’t—”
“Lacey!” My father’s voice booms across the church and I swipe the bag out of her hand and shove it into my pocket.
“This is the last time you’ll have to supply me,” I mumble before walking out and hearing her growl.
“You’re going to regret this, Kain Westbrook.”
Heard that one before.
So far, there’s only one thing I regret.
Once in the comfort of my car, I examine the USB in my hand that I so successfully snatched while she was distracted by Heath. Nothing out of the ordinary about it. Just a simple, black stick with the brand logo on it.
The car comes to life, and I pull out of the parking space before either of them have a chance to notice it’s gone. With any luck, she’ll think she dropped it.
A guard follows me in a separate car back to the castle.
“Stay the fuck here, I don’t want you anywhere near my wing,” I spit behind me as I stalk up the grand staircase.
“I have my instructions,” the guard argues.
I spin. “I don’t have a lot of patience today. If I see you in my wing, I might just kill you.”
His mouth kicks up in a sly smirk. He thinks I’m bluffing. And while I might not have killed anyone in my life, I’m not above starting now.
The guard steps forward and my fists clench at my sides.
“I’ll send someone else,” comes Dorrian’s lazy drawl.
With a roll of my eyes, I compose myself before I entertain the idea of sticking around with another asshole.
I don’t turn to acknowledge Dorrian. I dart to my wing. I don’t pass any guards, but there’s no telling how quickly Dorrian will send someone here.
I’m only thinking about one thing, and it’s how I can get rid of the smell of Lacey’s perfume from my fucking nose.
My knuckles are ready to knock on Jordie’s door when I hear a whimpering that shoots straight to my dick. I focus on my hearing as I press my ear to her door.
Another moan accompanied by a low buzz. My dick is swelling rapidly in the confines of my boxers and my throat dries. She’s getting herself off.
“Kain.” A muffled moan floats through the wood separating us.
I’d be a fool to not go in there now she’s said my name while touching herself. I stalk into her bedroom, watching as her body jerks in pleasure before her eyes snap open and her face quickly flushes red. She grapples with the sheets, but she’s laying right on top of them, legs spread, the toy pressed to her pant-covered clit. She drops the buzzing vibrator to the bed like it’s scolded her.
Heat flushes through me. All memories and the smell of Lacey fade as I gaze at her, spread out on the bed like my own personal feast. But that anchor of guilt still pulls me down even when I try to swim towards Jordie—towards the surface—knowing that when I emerge, she’ll know everything and hate me even more for it.
This is all Lacey’s fault. No—my fault.
Her wet hair is spread around her in waves. She looks like a fallen angel, sent right from Hell to bring me unbearable torture.
