I glare at the guard who followed me before I open the door to my bedroom and slam it shut, hopefully hitting him in the face.
I don’t bother to open the heavy curtains every morning because I prefer to be in the dark, hidden away from the world. As much as I hate being here, this space has become my sanctuary away from it all.
Growling in frustration, I stalk to my bedside table, yanking the drawer open and pulling out the blue vibrating wand I thought about more times than I’d like to admit, considering who’s been making me think about it.
I flop onto the bed and study the vibrator, my pussy literally begging for some kind of reprieve, especially after last night and the reeling I’ve been left with when Kain denied me of an orgasm.
With another frustrated growl, I turn it on, the vibrations filling my room before I guide it to my frustrated clit.

Kain
Smoking isn’t working anymore. Nothing is enough to get her off my mind. She lives there permanently, and I felt more in the last few weeks than I have the night she left. It’s driving me fucking crazy. She’s driving me fucking crazy. Her pain? Her hatred? The way it fuels her? I seek it out just to get a fill of it.
Plus, I’m also not any closer to getting evidence than I was years ago. She’s adamant I did it, and nothing will change her mind either way; she’s on a vengeance mission, and she’s determined to fulfil it.
I’ll gladly stand by her while I watch her become everything that she is. Even if I never manage to prove anything.
Watching her now, outside with her exposed wound being soaked by the rain, I jog down the stairs. Maybe I should just tell her what happened the night she was taken, and even if she doesn’t believe it, maybe it’ll put enough doubt in her head to start asking questions.
Arms folded above her head, attempting to shield herself as much as she can from the rain, she takes off. I curse, snatching her jacket off the pew and pick up speed, trying to get to her, but before I can make it out the door, a head of red hair cuts my path.
“Kain,” she purrs.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Lacey?”
She’s already batting her lashes, her nails reaching out towards my top, and scraping their way down. I step away, stomach twisting with revolt.
Her expression drops and she rolls her eyes. “When are you going to give me what I want?”
“My fucking money for the weed isn’t enough?”
“You know about our arrangement. If you don’t do something soon, you can find yourself another whore who will give you the high you need. And I’ll make sure this wedding goes ahead as soon as possible. You’ll have no choice but to impregnate me and then you’ll be my whore for the rest of your life. How do you like that?”
I clench my fists against Jordie’s jacket, no longer able to look at Lacey. She thinks she’s my whore?
I don’t need the weed anymore. Maybe my little devil is the high I’ve been needing, because every time I’m near her, I’m just thinking about how I can reclaim her as mine. Nausea rises in my throat at the thought of anyone but Jordie carrying my child. At the thought of not being able to escape Lacey.
“Lacey…”
“No, Kain. We had an agreement.” She pulls out a small plastic bag with clumps of weed inside it and waves it in my face. “I have your next dose right here, and if you don’t give me what I want, I will flush this down the toilet.”
My hands tremble with the need to snatch it off her. Just in case. Just in case.
When Jordie was gone, the only way to get her off my mind was weed. But now… I wish I never fucking started.
It has no effect on you anymore.
“Please.” She sighs, tilting her head seductively and giving me those puppy dog eyes she always thinks work. Her hand attempts to wrap around the back of my neck but I jerk away.
“If you don’t fuck off back to your drug den, I will tell the clergy about it. What then?”
Her eyes flare with fear. “They wouldn’t believe you.”
She’s right. She’s their golden girl.
“What are you even doing here?”
