“You may be interested to know that I have found out who Shadow is,” Hunt starts.
Luc stiffens as curses sound throughout the comms.
Liam, however, remains completely calm and unfazed. “Oh, come on Hunt, that’s a little desperate, even for you. No one knows who Shadow is.”
Hunt’s laughter is dark as he says, “I suppose I can tell you since you will not make it out of here alive. I have a contact who has found out that Shadow is, in fact, an agent at the organization and a member of one of the youngest teams. Imagine my surprise when I realized that Shadow was Everleigh.”
There it is, he said it, he actually knows.
“Interesting theory,” Liam replies, seeming completely unbothered. His poker face is incredible, but then if what Alaric said is true, he’s been perfecting it for decades. Liam continues, “I assume you’ve shared your so-called revelation far and wide.”
Hunt pulls a face. “Don’t be stupid. The only people who know are me, you, Stuart, who, as you are aware, is my second in command, and my informant Ivan. I paid a lot of money to keep it that way.”
Liam takes a step to the right.
“Taking the shot,” Atlas says steadily, his voice calm.
No one says anything.
Liam’s smile turns deadly.
A moment later, Hunt drops.
“Zemi, find Stuart,” Mr. R orders through the comms.
“It’s already done. He was in the office we’re next to,” Zemi replies immediately, her voice darker and more dangerous than I have ever heard it before, and I have to admit that it sends a chill down my spine.
I owe her.
If my identity gets out, then I am in serious danger, and more importantly, everyone who I love and who has been associated with me is in danger.
Some of those fuckers would do anything and use anyone to get me to do what they want.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Ever
There’s still the threat of the informant Ivan, but we can deal with that at a later date.
“Thank you, Zemi,” I reply gratefully, hoping that she knows how much I mean it.
“I’ve got you,” she replies immediately. “Heads up. Someone has managed to sound the alarm, and people are starting to head toward the area.”
Liam moves toward Hunt, making sure that he’s dead.
Before any of us can warn Liam through the comms, Callum pulls out his gun and aims it at Liam, moving impressively fast. Liam shoots Callum straight between the eyes before Callum can do anything.
The gunshot echoes throughout the docks.
We start running.
There are orders being shouted over the earpieces, and our teams are heading straight for Hunt and Liam, as people start to stream from the buildings and the people on the boat start opening fire. Our teams are returning it.
A team of ours gets on the boat from the water side and starts to take them out, surprising them and ensuring that the boat doesn’t leave with whatever is left on it.
It’s absolute chaos.
Something catches my eye on top of the shipping containers as we run toward the fight, and I glance over, weapon ready. I nearly stop running completely as I see Raid running effortlessly across the tops of the containers and jumping between them, keeping pace with us.
