I think about Flora, of course.

She has started appearing in my thoughts at times that have nothing to do with her, which feels unfair considering how frequently she already appears when I have a legitimate reason to be thinking about her.

I wonder what she’s doing tonight. Whether she’s at home or still at The Spindle. Whether she has eaten.

The thought of texting her comes easily to my mind. So does the impulse to do it. And I have learned enough in the past couple of weeks that I do not need a reason anymore.

I put my bowl on the coffee table and reach for my phone. There is already a notification waiting for me.

The Third Fairy

I’ve been thinking about something you asked me

I sit a little straighter and Rose glances over, then back at the television.

The Third Fairy

Probably

Great. Love that for me

As if I need any more drama in my life, honestly

Another pause.

Then:

The Third Fairy

I think you’re ready for the next step

I stare at the message, and my smile disappears.

Actually, I think I’m good!

I think the reversal worked because *reasons* and I’m good.

Really good

I get up from the couch and head to the kitchen with the stupid excuse to grab some water. Rose glances at me suspiciously, but she’s too enthralled by my cat’s fur to give a shit.

Work is going well and I’ve been asking for what I want and I’m not making lists anymore. And I met someone I really like and they like me too, I think.

There. If anything, continuing to interfere with this situation seems irresponsible.
