I can’t.

All I can think about is how my “daughter” just became my worst nightmare.

CHAPTER TEN

IMMIE

I should feel sorry for him, really, I should, but I can’t, I don’t. Nope, not even a little bit. Everything is slipping into place, a perfect, accurate, exciting place where Jensen Marino will finally be just where I want him.

Above me.

Below me.

All over me.

Inside me.

I add an extra sway to my hips as I sashay away from him. Then the moment I enter the changing room, I can’t help the smile that takes over my face. I feel like the Cheshire Cat beaming from ear to ear.

By the time I’m changed into my gym clothes, minus panties and a bra, I practically have a spring in my step as I head out the door toward Jensen.

A flock of desperate women surround him, and that won’t do, not at all. He’s my daddy, and I’m going to make sure they’re all aware of it.

He stands like some sort of god, a hot, buff god, with his arms crossed over his broad chest and a scowl on his handsome face as he glares at the pool as if it offended him, ignoring the women chattering to him.

I creep up behind him and wrap my arms around his back, then rest them on his stomach, reveling in the way his abs flex beneath my touch. Then his hands drop down to mine, and he maneuvers me to his front. Encompassing me in his embrace, he places a kiss on the top of my head.

I breathe him in. His cedarwood cologne anchors me to him, and I long to stay wrapped in his arms for a lifetime. They’re safe, secure, protective. They’re everything and more. I just need him to step over that line.

“Come on, Little Nightmare, let’s get you home.”

When he draws back, my body sags, and he bends to pick up my bag, then turns, giving me the perfect view of his ass as he walks toward the exit.

Jesus, the man is to die for.

I rush to catch up with him, but witnessing other women’s gazes lingering on him has a fierce territorial streak flashing through me. I’m known among the parents as the sweet, polite girl, but when I bare my teeth and narrow my eyes into dangerous slits, I appear anything but.

All I know is, when I slide into the SUV, I need to up my game.

Jensen Marino is not leaving me again.

JENSEN

I side-eye Immie. She’s quiet, way too quiet, and tapping away on her phone like it’s the only thing that’s important, when it’s anything but.

Unable to help myself, I snatch the phone from her and stuff it into the side of my door.

A gasp leaves her. “What the fuck?”

“Language!” I chastise. “We need to talk.”

“About what?”

I check the road, then glance back at her. Her blue eyes bounce over my face whereas my gaze trails down her clothes, or lack of.

“That punk back at the pool, is he your boyfriend?”

She snorts. “No.”
