My teeth ache from clenching them. The tiny shorts and crop top are barely existent. Does she always go out like this?
“What you’re wearing. It’s unacceptable.”
Her eyebrows pull together and her nose scrunches.
“Gym clothes? I told Brett I’d meet him there.”
Brett? The fucking little punk with an even punkier name. I bet he just loves meeting her there, seeing her dressed like this.
I shake my head and tighten my hands on the steering wheel—absolutely fucking not. He’s not going to witness her in those clothes. Over my dead fucking body. “No.”
She rears back. “No?”
I flick my eyes back to the road while my mind whirls with reasons I won’t let her go to the gym in so-called gym clothes.
“We’re going to Sal’s.”
The heat of her concentration lands on me. “We are?” she asks, with surprise in her tone.
“Yes.”
This, I can work with.
I’ve been so absent from my former home for so long, he’ll be pleased to see me, to see both of us. All the family will.
After my parents passed away, Sal became a surrogate father, so to speak, to me and my brothers. Though we’re not blood brothers, we’re all bonded by La Familia, and in turn, to each other.
Sal stood up when we could have easily been placed in foster care. He welcomed lost boys with open arms and attempted to provide us with a family when we were without one.
He’s not been quiet about the fact I barely visit, and since he found out I was coming home, he’s been very vocal about expecting to see more of me. Well, I’m about to grant his wish.
Zane, my oldest brother, messaged earlier and asked if I’d make it over for a drink tonight to catch up with the guys. I was quick to reply that I was busy, but it seems he gave me the perfect excuse to keep Immie from the gym.
“Is Fern going to be there?”
I have no fucking clue if my niece is going to be there. Honestly? Probably not, but I’m not about to tell Immie that; she loves Fern.
“Sure.” I wince at the uncertainty in my tone.
“Well, I need to message Brett and tell him I’m not coming to the gym.” She holds out her hand, and I laugh.
“You’ve had enough screentime for today.”
She chokes. “You’re joking, right? I’m not a toddler.”
“I know,” I snap back.
“You’re so confusing, Daddy.”
I clench my teeth as my body reacts to her words. Fucking daddy. Since when does she say that when we’re alone.
Then she shocks the shit out of me and rests her head on my knee, and my cock throbs. I can’t help but run my hand through her luscious locks, encouraging her to rest there for longer.
All the tension and anger slip away, and we relax in the silence, where nothing else matters, just me and my little nightmare.
